Sony Vaio - Problem with capturing

Hey guys,
sorry for taking some of your time (well reading this post and maybe answering... :> ) but I have a rather new Sony Vaio PC,2800 GHz, 120GB hard disc, one of those things which looks like a grey suitcase, with a LCD screen built in, its rather a heavy thing to carry though ... and with this pesky sony proprietary notice noone cares for.

Anyway, i can watch tv and record it - fine (with sth. called Giga TV... i am not too fond of it btw... but it works, so whatever).
Now, I have about 80 old VHS tapes, some about 15 years or older, and some containing family videos and stuff which I want to have digitalized (for both storage, and manipulation ).

How do I capture?

I was trying VirtualDub's "Capture Avi" feature, but it tells me that something else is using the ... hmm not entirely sure , but something else is using the capture hardware (?).
I cant seem to find what is using it, probably giga TV (but its not running... maybe its autorunning?)

Any hints on how to make VDub work or any info or pointers to URL which could help here?

they did wonders for me.

Whoa, definitely want those digitized.

VAIOs have lots of unnecessary background programs, you are most probably right, maybe some sort of timed capture function for that "giga TV" (never even heard of this btw, is it any good?)

Ah well, I am not happy with it but then again i didnt buy it, my old dad did *g*.

I'll reread the guides carefully again a bit later, thanks, sortof busy with too much rite now in general. :)
