View Full Version : TMPGEnc DVD Author's output is incomplete

I am trying to put together a DVD consisting of two mpeg-movies, which I have converted from avi to mpeg with TMPGEnc.

The movies are both fully DVD compliant, they are MPEG2, the resolution is 720x576 at 25fps (PAL) and audio is 48000khz Stereo just like it should be.

I did this a dozen times before and TMPGEnc DVD Author never failed on me. But with these two movies, when I have the program create the output folder, it seems to just ignore one of the two movies! It just outputs the other one, although both are listed in the "Source setup" as well as in the menu. I simply cannot get the program to properly output both movies. The menu is fine, and the first movie plays well, but the second movie has simply been ignored.

Both movies have identical settings, except that one is at 2500kbps and the other one at 2400.

Anybody know what the problem is?

Okay, why don't you try a few things:

1. Create a DVD with the second (ignored) movie only. If it doesn't work, there is something wrong with the MPEG file.

2. If you have both movies on the same track, try instead creating two different tracks, each with one movie, and see if it helps. Maybe the two MPEGs are incompatible with each other.

3. If you already tried putting the movies on the different tracks, try to swap them, i.e. put the second movie on track 1 and the first movie on track two. If the different movie is being ignored, that means it's a problem with TDA.

4. Always watch the DVD Capacity bar at the bottom to ensure that the size of the project corresponds the total size of the files you included.

5. Sometimes TDA can be confused by the MPEGs that don't have proper timestamps, for example if the MPEG file was a result of merging two or more files. Check whether the length of each file shown in Source Setup is correct. If not, you will have to demux the file and run .m2v it through ReStream (on download page) resetting timestamps.

Post your findings.

Thank you for your help! :)

It seems to be the movie. When I put just the ignored one on the DVD and want to get an output, I get nothing. The program skips that movie and the output folder is pretty much empty. There isn't any error message though.

I wonder what went wrong during conversion, because TMPGEnc did not show any error messages. I will convert the movie again and hope it will work then! :)

EDIT: I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but when I converted the avi to an mpeg, TMPGEnc for the first time ever popped up a window called "Judging field order" with a status bar. It disappeared again quickly, but I never had that before on any other movie. What does that mean and could it be the reason why the MPEG is being ignored by TMPGEnc DVD Author?

Apparently, this file requires different encoding settings since you had never seen this message before. Cut off a minute of this movie and try to encode it changing settings in Advanced tab (Source type, Field order). Reportedly, it might help if you go to Options - Environmental settings - VFAPI plug-in, right-click on DirectShow and increase its priority to 1. Didn't try this myself though.

It still doesn't work. :(

I cut away some frames from the movie using VirtualDub, and I played a bit with the settings in TMPGEnc, but DVD Author still does not output this movie. It just skips it. :(

The DirectShow plugin has top priority. I'm out of ideas now.

In TMPGEnc, try running the MPEG through Merge&Cut in the MPEG tools. Simply add the file and save it under a different name. Sometimes this fixes certain problems.

Thanks, finally it worked! :D

The MPEGTools said something about an invalid audio stream inside the mpeg (although TMPGEnc encoded it), so I encoded it again using the original .wav from the avi.

Thanks again, really appreciate it! :)

Glad I could help!
