Im currently trying to convert an avi file to a DVD format (MPEG-2). Its an TV-episode running time 25mins (well actually a couple of them). Im kind new to this encoding thing and after a little research TMPGEnc sounded like a good choice for the job. Ive followed two guides, on this site and another on dvdrhelp.com, but the output always gets messed up.
The main problem is running time. the output MPEG-2 file has a running time 67mins, even though the avi file is only 25mins. These last 30mins seems to be the last frame copied a million times. well, its a logo so thats around 30mins with a logo nothing else. (sorry im really bad explaining things). and the first frame says: 'Warning: Nothing to ol bframe decoder lag'. also the aspect ratio is 448x352 wich didnt seem to work quite well with DVD authoring programs

any help appriciated
Thanks

Tmpgenc has problems with avi files with sound, especially mp3 or vbr audio. Use Virtualdub to seperate the audio (use full processing and save it as a wav)and video (direct stream copy). Encode them seperately. I suggest besweet to encode the audio to either ac3 or mp2 to save space on you dvd for video. You can mux them using tmpgencs tools (file-->tools) or leave them seperated for input into your authoring proggie. Let us know how this works out for you.

Alternatively you could increase the priority of the directshow filter in environmental settings. Works for me.

Or he can use Source Range to set the correct running time.

thanks for the tips. I sure will try them out.

i got another problem though. When i try to add the file in TMPGEnc DVD author i get this error message: A Video Secuence header is necessary for every GOP in a standard DVD...

what does this mean ? and is there a way to go around/fix this without encoding all over again ?

You have made a mistake on setting the encoding parameters. Take care to set Setting -> Advanced -> GOP structure -> Output interval of sequence header to 1.
