Check the following in IFOUpdate(v0.78)
*Transfer VTS_C_ADT Table
*Copy Color Table In Each PGC
*VTS_TMAPTI Table Transfer(Time Map)
*Adjust VTS_TMAPTI and ADMAP Sizes
*AutoCorrect VTS sectors
*AutoSet Region-Free
*AutoAnalyse Origional Ifo
*Disable Warnings
(Thanx Trahald)
If that didn't do the trick, try this:
1) Open the IFO in IFOEdit.
2) Uncheck EVERYTHING except "Correct original IFO files" in the "VOB Extras button."
3) Click on OK to let IFOEdit do its thing.
4) Save the IFO.
5) Open the VIDEO_TS IFO in IFOEdit.
6) Click the "Get VTS sectors" button.

Yep, there have been many threads covering this topic. However, I hadn't found a crystal clear newbie friendly guide until I came across the above posting the other day, so I thought I'd make it easier to locate for members to come.
I am absolutely loving this! There was always a sense of unfulfillment in not being able to open a project in shrink, but no more!
The best thing by far though is of course that the fear of an oversized outcome is a thing of the past! At least it is for me who's hanging in there with RA.

All my projects are dvd compliant and also I'm able to open them in dvdshrink. No need to do anything special

Hmm, wonder why mine aren't.

@wensleydale
do you update time map when you do ifoupdate?
just wondering

@Trahald
I've just started doing that actually, along with the ifoedit process. Is that enough you mean? Gonna try when I get home.

I believe Trahald means did you do that when updating the ifo after using scenarist. Because we all do that(together with the option just below correct something can't recall by heart) and I don't believe there's problems with readability by dvdshrink.
Not that I do that all the time (just in that rare cases that my dvd is overshot by a couple of mbs and I want to shrink the menu or some untouched extra a bit in a quick way). And I would do that on an imgtool classic generated iso as well.

my earlier big3 backups could not be red by dvdshrink. i changed my ifoupdate settings a bit (for other reasons) and noticed now dvdshrink liked my backups. i now check VTS_TMAPTI Table Transfer(Time Map) and Adjust VTS_TMAPTI and ADMAP Sizes
the second option helps with time seeking. the second *i think* fixes the size of the 2 areas to compliant sizes.
that did the charm.. all my backups (the ones i tested anyways) now will read by dvd shrink.
your way probably is doing something similar, but it is an extra step.
definately appreciate the good post, btw

influenza, you're doing something different than some of us if your Big 3 projects all turn out compliant.
This isn't limited to Wensleydale. I've seen this enough times to be annoying.
I just did Runaway Jury Widescreen R1 and Shrink wouldn't accept VTS 3, 6, and 7 from Scenarist output based off of either a ScenAid or ReAuthorist import script.
It's something that IFOUpdate does or doesn't do with the VOB mapping. All of the affected VTS sets will open in Shrink before doing the IFOUpdate step.
BTW, DVD Shrink v3.0 Beta 5 is good for this kind of thing - let's you open individual IFOs. I don't see this feature in his latest version.

A few minutes ago, after muxing "The Meaning of Life" R2 (only one re-authored VTS), I ran ifoupdate with these settings:
*Transfer VTS_C_ADT Table
*Copy Color Table In Each PGC
*Copy Audio and Subpicture Tables
*VTS_TMAPTI Table Transfer (Time Map)
*Adjust VTS_TMAPTI and ADMAP Sizes
*AutoAnalyze Original IFO (When Specified)
The result was refused by shrink.
Before today I never had "Copy Audio and Subpicture Tables" checked, and also I always had "AutoCorrect VTS Sectors (When Updating)" checked.
Perhaps the result had been different if I had not made these last two changese but the thing was that I happened to see the new big3 guide today and copied the ifoupdate settings off of that.
Giving it a new try tomorrow.

hmm.. i have checked only
ifoupdate .78
Transfer VTS_C_ADT Table
Copy color table in each pgc
VTS_TMAPTI Table Transfer(Time Map)
Adjust VTS_TMAPTI and ADMAP Sizes
autocorrect vts sectors
autoset region free
autoanalyse origional ifo
disable warnings
and the backup i just did dvd shrink took fine :/
wish i knew what the difference is

Also, wouldn't copying the color table from the authored ifo be a *BAD* thing?

the first option helps with time seeking. the second *i think* fixes the size of the 2 areas to compliant sizes.
As I recall the second option was introduced because in some cases (not all that many, I don't think), the time map table in the authored IFO was larger than in the original. That option will expand the time map table of the original IFO when required, so that it is large enough to hold the table from the authored ifo.
@ShaneZ, I had that option checked in a backup I made the other day and the sub colours were correct...and the DVD was already read by DVDShrink no probs...

My settings are similar, minus checking the region free option, plus checking autocorrect ifo/bup length. Using v0.78, by the way.
Sometimes they're clean, and sometimes they're not. And I always check my output in Shrink.

Nice we cleared this up. It can be annoying if things work for one but not for an other :)

Not always... I've run across a few that the original palette doesn't work on the authored VTS's due to wierdness in the contrast/color settings
I'm trying to figure out a way to fix these directly w/ ScenAid but I know RA does the same thing at times
American Pie 2 SE (R1) for example... the subs are suppose to be white in color however the original palette doesn't have white in it at all...
