Video capture program!

I use to have a leadtek winfast win2000xp where i can encode the TV or s-video/composite input to whatever video format that i had specified as long as I had the codecs.

Now I upgraded my TV tuner to Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 which use a hardware-based encoder for mpeg1/2 only. Is there any program where I can still do the encoding to other format ?

I have one of those cards too, and from what I'm starting to gather, it appears that most third party capture programs aren't going to work due to the onboard MPEG encoder.

It's kinda irritating, because ultimately it makes the card useless. I want to capture TV programs and later edit out the commercials. But due to the nature of the MPEG format, it makes it nearly impossible to do so!

I don't have a Hauppague, but I'd read the following site before I gave up. I'm not sure you can cap anything but mpeg with that card, but you can edit mpeg.

I want the program to have direct conversion, instead of the default captured mpeg format and conversion to other video format.

Why would you buy a hardware mpeg2 encoder if you don't want mpeg2 :confused:

Its not I dont want to have it in mpeg2, but sometimes it is necessary to use codecs like divx, xvid allow for greater compression

Third party capture applications not supported

The WinTV-PVR-250/350 records directly to MPEG using onboard Hardware encoders. Most third party capture applications are looking to attach to a card or driver that supports uncompressed video recordings. Like AVI files. These programs cannot capture video directly using the PVR-250/350.


You can of course follow something like the "Hauppauge PVR to MPEG4 Conversion Guide" http://www.servangle.net/pvr/
