xvid problems

i have a xvid movie that i am trying to convert to mpg and tmpegenc plus 2.5 wont work o keep getting errors i have tried to encode it to divx but vdub 1.4.5 will encode it but i get massive ofset in the audio stream or it wont encode the whole movie ive tried vdubmod aswell and it also wont encode the whole movie can anyone tell me how to get encode the Xvid file to mpg so i can burn it on a vcd

i don't know where to start maybe you can give some insights what your source file has used as video codec and what audio format is used in there so we can get an idea what's going wrong for you on a more general note maybe some interpunctuation and paragraphs can help the readability of your posts a bit i had much trouble reading and understanding what you wanted to tell us ah and hello welcome to the forum

oh ok sorry about that.

the movie is a xvid movie that I got when I brought original dvd from a friend (the backup is the avi)i have no idea what he used to rip it.

I am experimenting with avi canversions and this file is causing me much grief.

I am a newbie to video encoding so im sorry if i cant give u as much info as u might need to help me with this prob.


all i know is that the file is xvid and it is internally mismatched gspot v2.21 says

"This file is, or was, truncated. It may have been incorrectly fixed with "DivFix" or a similar utility. Since the frame count and other data is probably incorrect, only limited information is shown.

The file's original size appears to have been 696 MB (or 713,511 KB or 730,635,760 bytes), which is 6.25 MB (or 6,405 KB or 6,559,120 bytes) longer than it is now."

however the file plays all the way through and i did use divfix but not on the original maybe it was like that when i got it.

anyway that is about all i know at the moment.

Use virtualdub to extract the audio and the video stream:

1) load the xvid avi in vdub.
2) Go to the "video" menu and choose "direct stream copy".
3) Go to the audio menu and disable the audio stream.
4) "Save file as:" - that's the video only file.
5) Back to the sound/audio menu you can set "direct stream copy", or if you really don't get an idea which format the audio is compressed with, use "full processing".
6) In the file-menu, choose "Save wav..." - if you choose full processing of the audio, name it like audio.wav, else i.e. audio.mp3 or audio.ac3.

Now you have two files, the video and the audio.

Those you can open with tmpegenc.

It worked, but when I run it throught tmpegenc the audio is out of sync, so I an just going to try to use the audio gap feature in tmpeg to correct it.
