i'd just started using sbc yahoo dsl, and i can't seem to figure out how to get offline, can someone tell me how, without turning off the modem, and how to prevent my computer from logging on when it boots up

there should be something in network connections in control panel. i've got cable though, so it _may_ be different (i don't see how)

You could always go into the network connections as Mug Funky suggests and then view your network status (on my computer I have a little icon I can double click on the Task Bar). And in this dialog box there is a box you can click to disable (your NIC). This will stop your internet connection on your computer.

Go -> Start Menu -> Settings -> Network Connections -> YOUR DSL Connection -> Right Click and "disable".

The little icon should be enable to appear in System Notification Area.

Go same -> Right Click -> Properties -> Show icon In Notification Area
