Hello. First, I want to say what a tremendous tool and resource Doom9 has been to me since I bought my first DVD burner last Fall. I've had issue after issue and resolved every one by searching through the forum. Alas, I now have an issue that I can not resolve and can't find any thing close through a search. So here I am with my first post.
The problem: Failed burn after PC is 1., either on for more than a few hours 2., if any program other than the burning software is opened prior to launch, 3., second burn fails immediately after successfully burning one disc.
So, what is happening is this, I have a TDK Indi multi format (the NEC job) with hacked bios version 1.06b that I obtained from hermie.com (this was installed after my problem started.). Everything was fine until the day I noticed TDK had posted their 1.0A firmware with improved media support. I installed the firmware and burned a few discs over a couple of days, when I started to notice that I could only burn a disc if I had a freshly rebooted PC. If the PC had been on or if I rebooted and then opened up my web browser etc, I would get a "please insert disc" error on any of the burning software I have i.e. NERO, RecordNow Max, De-encrypter. Then after about two weeks of this, I couldn't get any disc to burn no matter if I cold cycled a hundred times. I figured it was the new firmware so I reverted to the hacked firmware I mentioned above. Ok, now I'm back to being able to burn a disc after a fresh reboot but not two in a row and not if the PC is on for any length of time since installing the hacked firmware. Also, a reboot doesn't always fix it on a one to one basis. Sometimes I'll have to reboot twice before I can successfully burn.
Any ideas? Driver conflicts? Memory leak? I notice that my drive region isn't set in device manager and it reports that I have 5 left. I set it when I first bought the drive. Does a firmware upgrade reset that?
I'm due for a reformat, as I'm on year two (usually I reformat once a year).
I also installed Force ASPI tool that threw a flag at first saying that the ASPI wasn't properly installed. I fixed that but it doesn't affect my current burn problem.
I can't burn my Memorex CD-RW's either which I was able to do when I first installed the drive. The DVD's are Memorex -R's.
I notice that TDK has a new firmware posted, version 1.3A.
Thanks in advance!
