OpenHTPC Beta 1 is released - Now Beta 1 R0420

I'm pleased to announce the Beta 1 version is released. A lot of improvement has been made in this release.
I always make the reliability of system is my highest priority. That's why I'm hesitate to add features that haven't been fully tested into the system, even though that feature has almosted been finished if you check the source code.

I'm working on the configuration tool. Now user can use the GUI tool to edit the complete keyboard button-event mapping.
It will be published in a couple of days. Please check this website or my website for update.

Keymap editing support has been added to the configuration file. The binary is upgraded to R0420.

The project focuses on providing a easy-to-setup, easy-to-use front-end for a Home Theater PC.
The system is specially designed for PC hooked up to a HDTV with an input device with at least 6 buttons ;-).
It's still in Beta stage. However, you can play movie clips and musics on local hard drive, removable media (CD, memory card etc) or over the network.
All you need to do is to specify folders that contains the multi-media files in a GUI based configuration tool.
The goal of my design is to make a single PC a most powerful home entermaintment center. Thus bring more choice to users.

I did test on my PC. Great front end!!

Some Requirements: (Especially on being a Doom9 member :D )

1. Need a Quit Button after Shutdown (Now, If I want to quit the program, need to use task manager)

2. mp4/OGM/Mkv playback , if possible ac3/AAC/OGG (vorbis) decoding too.

You need ALT+F4 to quit the program. The program does do necessary clean up before exit.
You CAN play any format in your feature requirement list AS LONG AS the codec is installed. Check GK codec pack in download area. Also download and install the Mkv codec from mplayer classic. I do prefer Mkv format over Avi.
I don't have time to work on a guide yet. If anybody can help me with the the guide I will appreciate it. But I believe the program is already intuitive enough. It's easy to make it a better freevo replacement on Windows platform.

But *.m4a,*.mp4 and *.ogg are not shown when browsing files.

I didn't add extension of *.m4a into search list. But mp4 and ogg certainly should work.
Can you check if you configured the folder correct? If you add the folder name into music collection it won't show up in movies.
I will make the extension list part of configuration file. It's not a big deal, just couple of lines of code. Right now I just want to keep the configuration clean while debuging.

Yeah, I added it as Music server and while browsing for files, these extensions are ignored....:)

Another trick, try to add paths to removable storages like CD/DVD or memory cards. After you insert the media, the event is automatically captured and you will get the icon of that device displayed in the main menu. You can then browse the contents in the new devices automatically.
