problem with skipping audio during playback

I´ve a problem with playing back movies. On occasion the audio skips. The image is not affected but a fraction of a second of the audio is lost. The codec doesn´t seem to matter, I had the problem on divx and xvid encodes of all kinds. Also I used different players. The problem still is the same. It´s not periodically and never appears at the same time. Also it´s never the video file itself. If I go back and play the same spot with the jump again it´s played back just fine.
Does anyone have any idea what might cause this problem and how to solve it?

hmm. czech your sound card drivers. upgrade them if you want.

i've no idea what specifically would cause this, but it's something going on between the audio stream and the output... look at the filter-graph in GraphEdit (doom9 downloads page), and see if there's anything bloating the audio pipeline up...

can't say more than that, as it's a very generalised problem. could be anything.
