dvd version 2

could someone tell me what "dvd-r version 2" means, are they normal everyday dvd's, is there a version 1, my writer will only write to this format.

I think this refers to DVD-R specifications (as set forth by the DVDforum). If your DVD burner can't write on version 2.0 media maybe you can fix the problem with a firmware update.
