View Full Version : Scenarist - 16:9 Content Creation

We're content creators trying to create material that will take advantage of Anamorphic Widescreen, as well as work on standard 4:3 televisions.

We have TMPGEnc, ProCoder, and Cinemacraft Encoders, but we need the highest possible quality.

Our source material is 2k film material (2048x1556) and we know how to resize, and create 30 fps material, but we're unclear about what the final aspect ratio needs to be, and what the pixel aspect ratio needs to be for successful authoring in Scenarist.

Thanks,

Mike

Here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=475980#post475980) is my recent post on the subject that should cover it for you.

In short words, you prepare your video in 16:9 format, e.g. 960x540, and as a very last step before importing into Scenarist you resize it to 720x480 (NTSC) with the anamorphic flag set to ON.

The confusing thing is that Scenarist's manual specifies 960x480, which is incorrect.

After much trial and error, we have found that the optimal size to create material at is 854x480, with Square Pixels, and then at output, reducing the size to 720x480. When we import it into our transcoder, we set the aspect ratio for the pixels as 16:9, and we export the .m2v similarly, with 16:9 (or anamorphic) engaged.

We have found that creating material directly at 720x480 with a 1.2 pixel aspect ratio produces the same results, however for internal software reasons, this output is not quite as high quality as resizing at the output stage; but this is really just a matter of workflow preference.

Thanks,

Mike
