i've managed to encode a .avi to mpeg2 (audio and video on separate files) using avidemux 2 for X and now i would like to multiplex to obtain vobs so i can burn a dvd. it would be nice if i could also add subtitles that i have here (.srt format)
anyone managed to do this under linux ?

Generating VOB/IFO Files
This step is not fully yet implemented. It is planned to base this component on the multiplexer from the mjpegtools project.
There's already valuable reverse engineered information about the structure over at the [mpucoder site].
Together with the information contained within free software DVD player implementations (e.g. [Ogle]) this should be enough information to get authoring ready for simple DVD-V structures.
See also [dvdauthor] @ sourceforge for some simple tools to create IFO files from VOB files.
Another promising effort has been started under the name [dvd-create] over at sourceforge.

this is also interesting, i think they should have released their source code by now ! it has been 18 days since april 1, 2004 :(

Important Announcement
The IfoEdit binary embeds at least one sizeable component that is GPL Software and as such we are obliged to make the corresponding source code for the binaries available.
This will happen with the next release of IfoEdit, with the modified GPL source code available to build the dll containing this code.
When this happens all versions of IfoEdit not complying with the GPL will be removed for download from this site.
That the binary-only release is currently being tolerated is to avoid inconveniencing would-be users of IfoEdit, but that this in no way represents the grant of a licence for binary-only distribution.
This is by agreement with the copyright holders of MPlex, specifically Dr Andrew Stevens, and must be resolved on or before April 1, 2004:( :(

DVDAuthor is what you're looking for. Can even take subs from text based formats.

There's a guide in the multimedia forum of Gentoo that explains how to create the video/audio/subtitles and how to compile the DVD wwith menus in DVDAuthor.
I haven't tried it myself yet, but it's the best guide I've ever found about DVD authoring in Linux.
