Hi!

Im trying for the first time to make a DVD from scratch. I have multiple episodes of a TV show I want to burn onto a DVD with a simple menu. I was thinking of using TMPGEnc DVD author for that part, but to get this far i need everything in .vob files (or MPEG-2 streams) ?? well anyhow i tried the guide with TMPGEnc (on this site), but that didnt seem to work very well, at least with the settings in the guide. there was some sort of disturbance at the top and buttom of the video (PAL 4:3).

so how is the easiest way I can convert the avi (XviD) files to mpeg-2 streams ?

also the episodes are around 3,6GB in avi files. will all of them fit into a DVD-R without too much loss in quality ?

any help appriciated
thanks

TMPEGENC is a good choice for converting your content to MPEG2. Just make sure you use it for the Video only, and pull out the audio using VirtualDub, and convert to AC3 (If it's not already in AC3) using BeSweet.

Can you try to describe the disturbance in the video? Generally, since you're using PAL some settings may be different than the common settings mentioned here (but they're usually quite easy to deduce from the NTSC settings).

Usually, a 45 minute episode takes around 350MB in good quality XviD. This means you have around 7.5 hours of video. It's unlikely you'll be able to get them all on a single DVD-R, unless you use MPEG1 for the video. You could get 3-3.5 hours of video on a single DVD with good MPEG2 quality, but you'll have to use VBR and slow encoding, to squeeze everything from that relatively low bit rate.
