having trouble restricting filesize: XVID RC4

Hi everone. I just installed XVID 1.0 RC4 from koepi's site. I am very impressed with the quality! The problem is, no matter if I'm doing 1 or 2 pass encoding, I can't get a reasonable filesize. Now, maybe what I'm trying to fit on 1 CD is unreasonable, but that's beside the point. :)

I'm trying to fit a 1 hour 23 minute video onto 1 CD. Here's my avs script:

I load this into virtualdub, and select fast recompress. I then set up xvid with these settings:

statsfile has a definite location, and I see it created

Zones:
zone1:

VHQ: 1 - Mode decision
Use chroma motion
max i-frame interval: 300
trellis quantization

Then on the second pass I try to encode with a bitrate of about 1000. The problem is, when I woke up this morning, the file was >2gb. I tried doing a single pass, constant bitrate 1000, but again the file size was getting out of hand.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong? Any ideas?

PS I've looked at doom9's xvid guide and searched for "xvid filesize", but didn't see anything that caught my eye.

The max quantizer for B and P frames was 1 (by default? I didn't set it). Incrased it to 31, problem fixed!

all quantizers are 1-31 by default ;)

As Pen-Pen said, 1-31 range is the default for I,P and B frames. You can hit the "Load Defaults" button in the configuration window and find it out yourself ;)
