Hi there all !
I have done a backup of Resident Evil R2 using the big 3 (doitfast4u 1.4.0.0, numenu4u 1.0.2 by Zeol, reauthorist 1.0 by acuabubble, batchccews 0.9.1.3.Beta, ifoupdate 0.78, ifoedit 0.96 and nero 6.3.)
But the result was to large to fit on a DVD-R (4495.9mb), but i thought reautorist autosize made the size to fit a DVD-R, was i wrong?
And what should i do to never get this error again?
What should i do with this backup version that i have made, should i encode all again or fix it somehow?
Does sceneaid work better with size control ?
Or should i calculate it manually, how do i do that and what program should i use?

Some other questions i thought of when doing this.
What do you guys recomend to use, reauthorist or sceneaid?
Numenu4u 1.0.2 by zeol, or numen4u scenarist version?
Is the version i have (above) the latest ones?
Whats the thing with ql lvl, can anyone explain that, and what lvl should i choose for the mainmovie, extra, menus?
Do you guys have any irc chanel or chat somewhere?

And just have to say, thanks to all ppl who are helping me out with answers and guides, i would have given up a long time ago without you.

Sincerely Zilwer

hi Zilwer,
although we are all happy to help, you can also help us by using the search button, and also read through some of the old threads (i know it can be daunting but it can also teach you a lot), as these issues have been discussed before.

here is a quote from trahald in regards to using DVDshrink to reduce the size of your output files:
have run dvd shrink on the last few big3 dvds i had with no problems. i dont know if its the newer version of ifoupdate or the fact i check update timemap when i didnt in the past. i also do get vts sectors with ifoedit after ifoupdateing (although except for once it seemed happy with what ifoupdate did and left it) so it might be the other changes
i sometimes run dvd shrink after an encode if its slightly too big on just the menu files.. at high % (75 and up) it seems ok. if it needs any more shrinking i make an image of just my ifos and menu vobs, mount it with daemon tools, and turn numenu loose on them. then toss it together and get vts sectors again.
and here is a quote from me, on using rejig to reduce the size of one of your mpv files:
another option is to use 'rejig' on one of your extras .mpv or main movie and reduce as required (either % based or final size based - although still largely innacurate in its beta stage, so it requires a bit of 'massaging' to get it right). then rename the output the same as the original .mpv, delete your .vif file for that vts, and reload your scenarist project and compile as usual.
as to preventing this from happening again? you can try using the workflow i discussed with you earlier:
now, personally, i only use RA for the generation of the script as i have found that using RA's bitrates to encode, can sometimes lead to oversized projects. so my workflow would be:
DIF4U > NuMenu4U > DoCCE4U/BatchCCE > ReAuthorist > Scenarist
or:
DIF4U > NuMenu4U > DoCCE4U/BatchCCE > Scenaid > Scenarist
and to clarify Scenaid is not used for encoding, only the generation of the script to be used in Scenarist.

Do you guys have any irc chanel or chat somewhere? although i have never used it, i understand that there is an irc chat @ #doom9.

hope that helps

ps someone else may answer your questions or i might a bit later ... my fingers sore from typing all that :D
