View Full Version : DVDStripper: How to use with already ripped files?

I have already ripped files from a DVD and I'd like to use DVDStripper to strip some items from the DVD and keep the menu. However DVDStripper works uses the DVD disc as an input. How can I reprocess the ripped files so that I can use DVDStripper?
Thanks.

Use dvdshrink full disc with no compression, save an ISO file in shrink, mount it with daemon tools, and use that mounted drive in dvdstripper.

The best program that i did found to strip extra and keeps menù is CloneDvd 2. This program is able to start from file vob and ifo in VIDEO_TS folder that you have from stripping with DVDShrink.
Extra will be tranformed in little "dummy" files and you will not have problem of compliance in playing it on DVD players. This because the structure of original DVD will be the same.
With DVDshrink you cannot eliminate extra (keeping menù) but only transform it in "still" image files.

So does CloneDVD 2 have similar features as DVDReMake and DVD Stripper (plus the transcoding possibility)?

you can re-use ripped files with DVDstripper, make, in case you ripped the DVD in file mode, from your ripped file set an image (for instance ISO) hope you are familar with that. In case you ripped in ISO mode you have an image. Now mount the image with for example Deamon tools on your virtual drive and rip them again from within DVDstripper using DVDdecrypter button and use the virtual drive as input

Use ImgTool Classic to create an ISO, then mount that ISO with Daemon Tools. You can then use DVDStripper with the drive you just mounted.

I tried CloneDVD2 and it seems like a professional tool, but it fails in some points such as not allowing any menu stripping and didnt detect a 800MB unreferenced dummy title inside the main movie VTS on a DVD I tried it with. DVDShrink properly reports it as unreferenced.
DVDStripper let me get rid of that and more.

I was able to ISO the ripped files, mount it and use DVDStripper to remove the extras. Then used DVDShrink to compress to DVD size and burn it using Nero. The completed DVD plays fine on PC but not on set-top DVD player.
I'm guessing it not playing because I see an "unreferenced" folder in DVDShrink? Is this right? If so, how do I detect this before I hit the "Process" button in DVDStripper?

The "unreferenced" folder is fine. What happens when you put the DVD in your set-top DVD player? Have you used this media before with problems in your set-top DVD player?

I have used this media. I hear the spinning noise when I put it in the set-top player. It does not give disc error message. It seems like it is trying to load the menu and it can't.

It sounds like you are removing too many items before the main menu. Did you remove items that didn't contain any video? I only remove menus and video that I don't want and leave the rest.

I tried removing the bare minimum number of menu items and titles and it did not work. Then I just removed just one title and kept the original menu intact but still the same problem.
1. Is there any certain setting that I'm using in DVDStripper that is causing this problem? I tried several DVDs and I encountered the same problem. I think I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
2. Let's suppose the DVD that I backup has 5 VTSs and one of the VTS contains all the trailers that I want to remove. Can I go ahead and remove all the titles from this trailer VTS and keep the menu untouched? What about those small 1 sec 10KB files which are used as dividers or faders in the same trailer VTS? Do I have to keep them for rebuilding the DVD?

I doubt it. If it plays in PowerDVD and it imports into DVDShrink, it should work.

Yes, I remove all the trailers and keep the menus. It just replaces those trailers with a blank VOB file (1-2 seconds of black). I used to remove those 10KB files, but I don't do it anymore because it has caused some issues.
Are you using the same burning program you usually use to burn DVD's that work in your set-top player? You might want to try different media if you have any available.
Finally, have you tried modifying the startup of the DVD via IfoEdit?
Using IfoEdit after DVDStripper to tweak the DVD startup (http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=34859)

I examined the problem further and found out the following:
1. The first screen that I see when I insert the disc is that standard copyright warning message.
2. Next there are some trailers that I have deleted but I have kept that small 10K file size short black fading screen in that chapter. I always do that for all chapters when I'm deleting the main chapter contents.
3. The next screen is the Main Menu screen.
For some reasons the DVD first plays (1) above and starts spinning and does not respond to any commands. However if I press the MENU button on the remote while the Warning screen is being loaded, I can get to the Main Menu and play the DVD properly. If I do not press the MENU button, it hangs up.
Is it necessary that I always keep all the material preceding the Main Menu for this to work?
BTW the DVD plays all okay on the PC without doing any above tricks.

I always remove everything before the main menu (except the 10k files) and haven't had a problem.
It sounds like your DVD player is very sensitive to DVD structure changes or it could be your burner. Have you tried to strip parts of the DVD that don't play before the movie, items that you actually select from the menu? If you don't mind me asking, what movie are you trying to strip? What set-top DVD player do you have? What burner do you have?

probably there is still a post or pre command present on your stripped DVD pointing to a video title, PGC or vob id removed in stripping proces, so not existing anymore on the DVD. Also it is possible that it points to a wrong sector on DVD (not properly adjusted by DVD shrink after compression)
PC DVD software players are less picky then standalone DVD players on this aspect and just ignore the error and carry on. The DVD standalone will keep searching for the info
You could try to see what happens if you comprees the files with another program, for instance InstantCopy from pinaccle

Have you compressed this movie with DVDShrink without using DVDStripper? Did it work? Have you tested other movies? If so, which ones? Have you tried Nero Recode (that's what I use)?
Yes I have compressed this movie without DVDStripper using DVDShrink and the menu and the movie all run fine.
I have not tried Nero Recode. Can I retain the original menus and delete unwanted titles using Nero Recode just like DVDStripper?

Yes, you can remove titles with Nero Recode, but not menus. You can remove the titles you don't want by selecting the title(s) you don't want and selecting "Disable." I haven't done this yet because I usually use DVDStripper to remove titles and menus. However, now I'm using DVDReMake and Recode.
