Comparable Size Compression of MPEG-1 Videos to XVID

Hi,

I have a 2.15 MB MPEG1 Video (very short file), which i wanted
to convert to AVI.
I tested a bit - still newbielike - with huffy it outputs roughly 32 MB while with Xvid quality (20%) and low estimation search I cant seem to get below 8...7 MB.

Is there a way to force Xvid to make comparable small files, for example lets say a 2MB Mpeg-1 to a at max 4 MB Avi file, and if so, which options did i miss out ?

Is there any reason why you don't just use commonly advertised settings; like a 2-pass with 2 b-frames at 1.5 ratio, vhq=4, ultra-high motion-search etc.?

I'd say, don't do it. Quality will only get worse and the file is small already.

I agree with Teegedeck, recompressing MPEG1 will only bring the quality down.

You might be able to remux it into avi with graphedit, ffdshow can decode avi mpeg-1 :|

i like small files, that's what was the main reason behind trying to reduce the file size :)

the quality IS already bad but its also only a very short clip , plus i like avi more (*praises Avisynth*) than mpeg

i think i am gonna play with graphedit, some months ago i was bout confused using it but i hope with some of the new knowledge it will prove beneficial for my newbie testings
