ok first i'll tell you my hardware: NEC 1100A DVD-RW
Asus cd-s500/a 50x cd-rom
the problem is: i can successfully burn data onto the 800mb cd-r (with nero) but when i try to read it its like there isnt a disc in the drive. It doesnt detect it at all. I have tried reading it on both NEC and Asus drives and 2 others and still no luck. Any idea on what could be wrong? BTW i have updated firmware on the drives. thanks, any help is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the Doom9 forum,
I regularly burn onto Philips CD-R 90 800MB media using a Mitsumi CD burner... anyways they play OK on my 'non-flashed' NEC 1100A drive!
I guess it must be a by product of the flashing.

thanks
actually i was mistaken, i never did change the firmware on that drive. only on the other plain cd-rom. is it possible that the media is only meant for audio and not data, I copied a cd image onto it. or maybe its my media that doesnt like this drive. heres a link for the cd-r's: http://www.precisioncddvd.com/precisioncddvd/90mi80mbcdby.html
I have also tried burning these cds on my old mitsumi burner and nothing i have now will read those either.
thanks for the help

I wrote a post about 90 and 99min burners (and media) a while ago. You can rear it here: -

I really like my Mitsumi CD burner because it's able to recognise Philips and Infiniti 90min media automatically as being 800MB in Windows Explorer. So I don't have to configure any overburing tools :)

try burning slightly less than 800mb.
Make sure your drive really is capable of burning more than 80mins. Overburning and burning to 90/99 min Cdr are different. Some drives and media will allow a margin on a normal cdr of up to +/- 2% so you can burn a little extra> Your drive may be capable of this but not capable of burning a full 90 or 99 min cdr.
How big is the image in explorer?
What drive do you have and what firmware?
I have no problem burning 99min cdr and they are read in 3 diff dvd players & 4 diff computer drives.

the image is 770mb so it shouldnt be too big,i know my drives are capable of burning 90/99mins. the first drive i ever tried with was my old mitsumi cr-4804TE with the newest firmware (3.0d) it recorded fine but i still couldnt read them. then i tried with my NEC 1100A with the stock firmware (i dont believe there is a newer one) and it recorded fine, but yet again they could not be read.
Any chance it could be the media?
Should i consider using something other than nero 6?
