I have an avi file which is not enough loud and I open with VitualDub V. 1.5.9(build 18121 release) in order to increase the audio volume. I put the different settings like this: Video: Direct Stream Copy. Audio: Full compressing Mode. I select in Audio Menu Volume and check the “Adjust volume of audio channels” and adjust the slider to 200%. In the moment I press the “Preview Output” button to listen the audio, I receipt a message saying: “No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format”.

In the File information of the program I can see this dates:

Sampling rate: 48000 Hz.
Channels: 5
Sample precision: N/A
Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)

With Gspot I can see that ones:

Codec: ac3(0x2000) Dolby Laboratories Inc.
Bitrate: 384 Kb/s (5Ch) CBR

What can I do to solve this problem?

You can increase volume of ac3 sound with ac3filter while playing: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/

Install it and play with the output options.

btw. the ac3 sound is probably the origal sound from the dvd. Vitrualdub can't decode/encode this kinda format.

Thank you Slogra for your reply.

I have installed the AC3 Filter and I can open my file.

But then I put video settings in Direct stream and Audio Setting in Full Processing Mode. In the Menu Audio I select “Volume” and I check “Adjust volume of audio channels” and put the slide to 300% and save the file with “Save as AVI”

The result is another file, increased the volume end transformed the sound to 1536 Kbs, 48000 Hz, 2 channels and 0x1=PCM supported.
Now my problem is that I have passed from a file with the follow characteristics:

File : 1.37 Gb (1.37 Gb), time 2:22:45, type AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality 65 %
Vídeo : 1011 Mb, 990 Kbps, 25.0 fps, resolution 576*304 (16:9), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported
Audio : 392 Mb, 384 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 5 channels, 0x2000 = AC-3 ACM Decompressor, Supported.

To this another file:

File : 2.53 Gb (1.101 Gb), time 2:22:45, type AVI, 1 audiostream(s), quality 56 %
Vídeo : 466 Mb, 456 Kbps, 25.0 fps, resolution 576*304 (16:9), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported
Audio : 1.54 Gb, 1536 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x1 = PCM, Supported

At the same time if I play it in my computer all is OK, but if I play it in my satandalone player I can not have audio.

By the way my problem is that I have an avi file which is not enough loud and I want to increase the volume without loss of the other characteristics, includig the size of the file. Can I do it with VirtualDub or there are another programs to do it better?
