Sorry if this was asked 1000 times over - it does not appear on the FAQ and a (not-so-thourough) search did not yield results.

I have multiple AVI's, each of them 10 - 30 min. length. I wish to fit several on a singlle CD

1st question - can this be done without joining them with VDub?

The reason - many of these are XVids with VBR audio. for some reason VDub does not digest them well. There's a note, and then VDub w'ont 'Add segment' (see attached image)

I have to re-encode the audio (no direct stream copy for the audio) and then to join them - but there's a synch problem which grows with each AVI. So...

2nd question: What's thid with VDub and VBR audio? Any workaround?

Hi-

If you really mean that you're using VDub for this, then don't. It doesn't support VBR MP3, for the reasons you discovered. Use VDubMod or NanDub to join the avis. As for that stupid message you get, ignore it and answer No.

However, your avis may still not join, as all the parameters must be the same before you can append them all.

But there's no need to join them anyway. You can have AVI2SVCD create separate mpgs for each small avi (figuring the total size to fill each CD), and then add them all together in VCDEasy. You can even easily create a simple menu so that they all play one after the other, or so that you can select whichever one you want to play.

Here's Doom9's VCDEasy Guide:

And you can ignore all that Chapter Extracter stuff. You probably don't need chapters anyway, since your videos are so short. Or you can create your own easily, spread apart however you like.
