divx crashes xvid

I have a problem which occurs with both rc3 and rc4. It is not encoding related. When i click on a .avi in the explorer browser window it crashes xvidcore.dll which inturn causes explorer.exe to restart itself. It only does it on the one file that i know of so i suspect it has a corrupt index or something. However, the video continues to play normally in media player classic.

What makes this strange is the video was encoded with divx not xvid. So why is it calling xvid in the first place?. FourCC support for DIVX and DX50 IS OFF in the xvid decoder panel.

The video in question has
- fourcc description code : divx
- fourcc used codec : DX50

Upon further investigation i discovered it only crashes when "overlay extended mode" is on in the divx control panel. At the time of crash overlay was set to "maintain original".

In the xvid installation pack is option to decode other divx codecs using xvid. Try to disable this feature...

Explorer crashes when previewing the file or when retrieving data (resolution, duration ...).
An easy workaround is to use "View > List" in the explorer menu.

It crashed when you select the file in the file list.

I am using windows XP. However the problem appears to have fixed itself. Windows at its best i suppose:D

The only things i did on my computer that may have fixed it is.
- uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics driver
- uninstalled and reinstalled a newer version of Nero vision express.

It could have been something different that resolved the problem but if anyone else is in the same situation they can try the above first. Thanks for the help anyway guys. Hopefully the problem is gone for good.

Actually I just fixed a memory leak that could have caused this. I sure hope that was it.
