Hi,

We all know that ReAuthorist doesn't calculate the size of the subs in its estimated size.
Does that mean it's just a matter of guessing the bitrate to get the project on a DVD5 afterwards?
Is there any way to know for sure (or almost sure) how much you need to decrease the bitrate in function of the subs so it will all fit on a DVDrw ?

Thx,
Craz

Subs encode very VERY small anyway and really are non-substantial when it comes to doing bitrate calcs. All calc's I've seen have an "overhead" figure to compensate for these kinds of issues.

I've never had or heard of anyone having oversize issues due to subs

Well, I have been using DIF4U's calc for quite a while now, but when I was using RA for size calcs I would always end up within about 20MB of limit. Like D3s7 said, size of subs are usually so small its insignificant.

My big word for the day :)

I did one and let RA calculate the size with autosize, but when finished it was 4.41gb, thus oversized...

I did the rip again and reduced the bitrate from 3700 to 3500, resulting in 4.06gb, too small in my opinion.

I'd like to know how i can get as close as possible to 4.36gb, max capacity of DVD5, if that would be possible to calculate.

If your not removing anything after ripping w/ DoItFast4u, then use it's bitrate calcs.... much more accurate then RA's IMO

Ok i'll check it out, thx.

Well be sure to set the max size in RA to 46800000 something. That will make sure you use the most conservative bitrate calcs. Unfortunately the bitrate calculation of RA is not always reliable. I don't think it's subs that causes this, but I've never gotten into it very deeply.

Dif4u's bitrate calc is usually spot on (some exceptions every now and then with vobid demuxes and angled stuff). So if you're interested in a fixed bitrate for extras just go with dif4u calculation (OUTPUTTED TO CCEDATA.TXT, which can be loaded into docce/batchcce directly). if you want to play around with bitrates then you'll have to use ra and take the oversized projects every now and then.
