View Full Version : AutoGK - no audio on VCD

Using the latest versions of AutoGK (v 1.0) and DVD Decrypter, I ripped and encoded a DVD by following the AutoGK tutorial. It all seemed to go well, taking around 9 hours or so. I set it to create 2 CDs for subsquent creation of VCDs, and then created a VCD with Nero 5.5. The resulting VCD had an image but no sound. That started a whole day of trying to find a solution and I kind of did, but would prefer to know why this happened so I can avoid a whole lot of trouble. I'm still right at the beginning of the learning curve here, so forgive any obvious omissions I've made.

I use Ulead Video Studio 7.0 as an editor for my camcorder movies. That allows me to split the audio from the video in an AVI file. For some reason, the Ulead VS player doesn't recognise the audio codec (the audio is AC3) and nor did Windows MP 9.0. So, I downloaded a codec package (Nimo lite pack) and that seemed to fix the problem in WMP but not in Ulead VS.

I used Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to extract the audio from the AVI file and converted it to a 44.1 khz wav file, then deleted the AVI audio and replaced it with the wav. The result was an audio track, but unwatchable video image. Weird.

The compression used in AutoGK was XviD.

So I'm wondering why the two AVIs created by AutoGK don't have sound when made into VCD. In the advanced settings tab, the Audio was set to auto. Should I try changing it to mp3? My video editor will have no problem reading that, and I'm sure Nero would manage it too. If I haven't had any dialogue by the shutdown time, I'll try doing that overnight and see whether it works.

I find this quite fascinating and am quite amazed at how many things there are to consider! How anyone comes up with someting like AutoGK I will never know!

ahmm sorry i'm not sure why you are following the autogk method to do your task as it was actually design for the creation of avis and not vcds (mpg). why don't you use DVD2SVCD for this task?

perhaps you could explain this a little better!

otherwise, if you want to take a look at DVD2SVCD, please read this guide, it should explain a couple of things!

advise - remove nimo pack and get one of matroska decoder (http://packs.matroska.org) packs. nimo has be known to cause problems.

Thanks for the responses. Changing the audio to mp3 did indeed solve the problem.

As to why I'm using GK for this, I just thought that was what I ought to be using. I'll try the DVD2SVCD next time, and thank you for pointing it out.
