View Full Version : DoItFast4U crashes when demuxing a Stargate DVD

DarkFear_DK
12th April 2004, 09:25
Hello Peeps,

I am trying to make a backup of my Stargate DVD's, however, when I am trying to demux the DVD, it crashes after trying to demux the subtitles 3 times in a row (each time it extracts the same VOB files again using dvddecrypter).

I'll include my DIF4U log at the end of this message.

I know for a fact, that the DVD is a duplicate VOB id DVD, but DIF4U should be able to handle this, right?

I have successfully backuped up many of my other DVD's using the same method as I'm using with Stargate (Scenarist NT & the big 3 @ doom9.org).

I hope someone have an idea as to what this might be caused by.

Thanks in advance

it looks like you are demuxing by cellid? why are you doing that? you may want to use a newer version of dif4u for that, the newer ones handle subs much better. but really, since stargate is a regular multi pgc, pgc demux is just fine

i have done the stargate dvds with no problems. i did them by pgc and scenaid made a perfect script. compiled no problems and final dvd navigates and plays in dvd player 100%

I have just started backing up my stargate sg1 series 7 using DOIF4U 1.4.7 (donate to receive!) and it does demux by vobid and encodes perfectly well, that is all but the subs! They start about 4 secs too early! on all the episodes. They remain 4 secs out for the duration of each episode, the chapter points are correct. I've done the fist two disks, both had the subtitle problem.

I have read about the 'dummy cell' possibility but haven't explored that yet - any likelihood this will be looked into?

Funny you should link to that post. Those disc were the Stargate SG-1 R1 discs. The solution to the subs being off is to manually load the subs. ScenAid and ReAuthorist screw it up for some reason. Now all my subs are in sync. Perhaps I should post that solution.

@DarkFear_DK: Which Stargate are you refeering to? The movie or series? I have successfully backed up the movie, both discs, using demux by PGC. They really have nothing special about them. You can also back up the Series by PGC as well, just manually load the subs, if you keep them.

Would you by chance using Scenarist 3?

Chubmeister
13th April 2004, 15:50
I use Scenarist 2.7

Ha, typical, I've just binned the last rip and have it demuxing by cellid as we speak.

Always used to reauthor manually until the likes of RA and Scenaid, never crossed my mind to import the subs manually, will try it and let you know.

Based on http://www.doom9.org/mpg/vobidornot.htm (this page) . I may have misinterpreted the page, but from what I can understand, I need to demux using cell-ids? :-/

Okay I'll try that :)

Thanks for all your help.

Haha, sorry for not mentioning it. I am talking about the Stargate Series (all of season 5 PAL R2).

I will just try to demux using VOBID's.

Can anyone tell me the most significant differences when demuxing using VOBID's or Cell-ID's?

(I am still new to this more advanced type of DVD backup) :)

Hope I don't annoy you guys too much

You only need to demux by PGC. I used DIF4U v1.4.0 for the movie and v1.4.0, v1.4.6, and v1.4.7 for episodes, ScenAid, and Scenarist 2.7. It worked fine. The Movie you do not need to manually import the subs.

Do the PAL discs have something crazy going on that the NTSC disc don't? Maybe if you posted part of the VTS1 IFO file we might be able to help you more. I am assuming that all the episodes are in VTS1 just like the NTSC versions. On the NTSC version we have something like:

VTS 1
PGC 1 --> Episode 1
PGC 2 --> Episode 2
...
VTS 2 - Extras

As my subs were off, and from your other thread, I thought I might investigate the 'dummy cell' theory.

I also mentioned, incorrectly, that I used a vobid demux (apologies Darkfear_DK if that threw you). Trahald and Stiff are correct, it is just a regular pgc demux (with a few duplicates pgcs deselected, presumably for directors comments).

Didn't have time to finish project, so don't know if subs work yet, will post results tonight.

Ahhh, the subs are still off by the same amount with manual import!

They start about 4secs too early and are out by the same amount throughout the episode, audio is in sync.

Any suggestions?

Can't you move the subtitles block over four seconds? The subtitle file might have the wrong time. I've always demuxed by PGC, and the subtitles work out fine after I manually import them. Yes, you loose the hidden cells in the back if there are any, but the disc works fine.
