Hi Zilwer and welcome to the forum!

It would be helpful to know a few extra details to aid in the troubleshooting process.

1. did you use NuMenu4U in your process, and if so, which version?

2. did you strip any of the content from the original in your back-up?

3. does the original disc exhibit the same behaviour? (sorry have to ask)

4. are you testing on a software player on your computer or have you burnt to disc and tested in your standalone player?

anyway, i have my theories but ....

cheers

Thanks for the reply, and i know i didnt give you guys all information , but here it comes

Yes i used the numenu4u it ran automaticly before demuxing in the doitfast4u proccess. and it was version 1.0.2 (by the way is that the latest?)
And numenu4u striped out an italian version of the menu, and i also striped out the italian language from the main movie, and all of the subtitles exept the english and swedish one, doitfast4u also striped out 2 pgc that was blank and duplicates of each other, it was 2min blank screen, i have seen many movies that have those, should i keep them or is it safe to strip them out?
And no when i play the original dvd it playes fine, no problem at all, and i have both tryed in powerdvd, (straight from the computer and tryed to burn the dvd also , both ways gets the same problem.
Other info you might need is
I am using Reautorist 100
The Source DVD is " Oceanīs Eleven R216:9 LB (2.35:1)
Doitfast 1.4.0
docce4u 1.1.0.1.5
Sonic_Scenarist_Pro_v3.0
CinemaCraft.Encoder.SP.v2.66.01.07
Ifo update 0.79
Ifo edit 0.96
DVD Decrypter 3.2.1.0
AVI Synth 2.0.8
By the way is those the lastest program of all or can i update some?
Hope this will do.
also wounder if there is any www site with a chat about those programs or irc chanels?
Sincerely Zilwer
By the way, i have started out with another movie now to see if the problem remains (Resident Evil R2)

I have the same problem,i just posted a thread similar to your!Instead of DoCCE4U i used BatchCCEWS,the latest version of DVD Decrypter(3.2.10) and IfoUpdate 0.78(i didn't know about 0.79)

Zilwer

Just to let you know you there are alsop new cersion for DoItFas4U and Avisynth, anyway i don't think this is our problem!

Zilwer
12th April 2004, 13:43
ok but doitfast4u newer version you would have to become vip to get right, and i have to wait for my paycheck until i can get that, and what version is the latest on avisynt?
I dont either think thats our problem but its nice to have the lastest of all the program too.

Done another backup now, Resident Evil R2 DVD9, but this time i didnt touch the menus and didnt rip out anything, still got one problem, when i choose to play the movie in the menu, it starts with the sneekpeak first then play the movie. But if i already watched the sneekpeak before going into the movie it plays the movie. All i want is when i press play the movie i want it to play the movie directly.

nevermind the last reply, i just watched the original dvd and it does the same thing, so it should be like that! lol
But still, this time i didnt touch the movie, and didnt rip anything out, and worked, but i really want to encode the menu and mayby rip something out, so i will try that now.
And i still havent got any sollution to the oceans eleven proglem.

If you've used numenu you can try grabbing Zeul's new "Scenarist" version and testing that... it's early beta still however it seems more stable the the other version released.

If you haven't used numenu on your backup adn are having navigation issues, make sure you updated your ifo's properly (only update ifo's for titles you reauthored and make sure you have the right ones selected for "original" and "authored") - lastly make sure you do a "Get Sectors" in ifoedit. IfoUpdate also has this function but many of us have found at times you need to double check ifoedit

I used the Numenu4U 1.0.2 by Zeul!Tomorrow i'm going to try the Scenarist version, can i just replace the vobs that numenu created today with the ones which will create tomorrow with this new version?I checked for the correct IFOs in IfoUpdate.I didn't use IfoEdit in my job,i used:DoItFast4U,Reauthorist,BatchCCEWS,Scenaid and Scenarist 3.0 like doom9's guide says for DVD9 to DVD5 backup

I don't think you'll be able to easily use the new files from onenew menu to another...

did you at least use ifoupdate? If not then that's where you problem is

Yes,i forgot to write it:i used IFO Update.Should i restart all the encoding?I have averything:all the files extraxted by DoItFast4U,the MPV by CCE and so on...!Now i finisched to use the new menu4u(scenarist version) and scenarist is started and finished after a certain amount of time. Now i have in another folder named D_VTS_01_0 some other subfolder:demuxed, demuxed cell_id,frameserving,new m2v and subtitles. What should i do?

@ boombastic.

unfortunately as an outsider it can be a bit hard to offer the correct advice without sitting with you and watching all of the steps you took, as i could offer advice now that *should* work but it depends on what you have done....

if you received no errors in the numen4u (scenarist version) process then you should also have a VIDEO_TS folder with the numenu4u files. now this is also the same folder that may have been present in your previous attempt so some of the files may have got mixed up.

if you created a new diectory for this attempt of numenu, i would simply copy the video_ts folder over into a new project folder, copy the 'scenarist' muxed .vob files (that you previously created and copied from the '0' folder) into this folder then copy over any orginal .ifo and .bup files (from your original .iso mounted disc) that you need to have a complete set of the required files.

then run ifoupdate only on those .vob files that you copied over from scenarist.

if this doesnt work, or if you are not sure about which files to copy where, it may be the best course to simply start the WHOLE process from scratch

hope that helps

Numenu (scenarist version) gives me this problem:it starts creating a scenarist scrip but never stops!I wait for about 15 minutes and i doesn't do anything, there's no access to my HD and the script file is always 15 kb;maybe i'm too newbie for these tools...i'm better to change to one click backup solutions! Many thanks anyway for your help!

@ boombastic

well as the scenarist version of numenu4u is still in early beta testing stage, there will be a few issues to iron out. it would be helpful if you could post the issues you are having in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73926) so that zuel can properly address the problem.

for now, instead of giving up, i strongly suggest that you try the whole process without NuMenu4U so that you can accurately determine whether it is in fact NuMenu4U that is causing you grief.

believe me, although the 'big 3' process may seem a little daunting and confusing at first, it really is simple once you understand the basics.

and always remember that if you run into any problems, there are many talented forum members who will help you out.

good luck

No bombastic dont go back to one click backup, i had the same probelms remember (i started this thred) but now i dont, some tips from forum and own thinking made the solution.
So if you still dont want to give up, you can reach me on my msn mikael@frodin.net so i can try and guide you through the steps in the way it worked out for me.

Ok,you're right! This movie is gone(i backuped it with Nero Recode...) but next movie will be another story and i'll re-try the "big 3":i used it on The Fellowship of the ring some weeks ago and it fit on a DVD5 with excellent quality to me,so it's worth another chance! Thanks again!

the big3 process is the automation of a method to backup a dvd using reauthored files and using the data from the reauthored ifo's to update your origional dvd files. the reauthored files were made with reencoded assetts from cce (technically you can use any high quality mpeg2 encoder, but cce has been agreed to be the best for the task by most involved). basically between a post from joseph2 and fine tuning by eyes only, trilight, jdobbs, and many others, the process was streamlined. Then applications were made to automated the tons of manual work that was done (before ifo update the ifo information was copied by hand in ifoedit, and before doitfast4u the tons of assetts and avs scripts and cce projects had to be done by hand.) i could go on (i like to type ;) ) but i wont.. but anyways.. i prefaced that to answer what the files are ...

DOITFAST4U (parses the dvd and prepares for the next steps)
*.m2v files -> these are your origional video files from the dvd
*.d2v files -> these are the dvd2avi project files. basically its an index file that mpeg2decx.dll uses for reading back the origional mpeg2 video file from the dvd (oversimplified)
*.avs files -> these are your avisynth scripts. avisynth is a frameserver that through use of mpeg2decx.dll allows CCE to read the mpeg2 video source. the script file tells it what source video to read from and also what filters to apply if any
*.ac3 *.dts *.mp2 *.wav -> these are your audio files. i dont own any dvds that have mp2 or pcm audio so im assuming on those extensions
*.bmp *.sst -> your subtitle pictures in bitmap form and the index file that tells what times to display them, used by scenarist
*.idx *.sub -> another subtitle format made by vsubrip. this is later converted to *.bmp *.sst format
*.chunks -> made during this process. not sure the function
*.cc.srt *.scc *.cc.raw -> Closed Captions files
*nocce* -> video files that are too small to be compressed so are used unaltered in your project, and dummy files that are generated with them, but not used
*0byte* -> audio files that had no data in the stream
*.ifo -> these are the DVD navigation files from the origional dvd
cce_data.txt -> this is the index file DoCCE4U/BatchCCE4U uses to know what video files to encode
*.txt -> many stream setting files that are generated by dvd decrypter and are used by the programs in the process
\VIDEO_TS -> menu vob files , vob files from vts unchecked in dif4u, and ifo , bup files from source dvd

BatchCCEWS/DoCCE4U
*.ecl -> these are made before each video encode is started. its a settings file for Cinema Craft Encoder
*.mpv.m2v -> your new video files after pulldown is used to effectively 'convert' from 23.976 fps -> 29.97 fps (ntsc)
*.mpv -> your vew video files at either 29.97 fps (ntsc) or 25 fps (pal). also can be the 23.976 fps files before pulldown is run on them. (i have batchccews delete these files after pulldown)
*.vaf -> file made by CCE. this video information file stores data information about source video and is used for bitrate distribution and (i would imagine but could be wrong) motion detection

Reauthorist/Scenaid
Reauthorist_DoCCE.txt -> similar to cce_data.txt but generated by reauthorist after you hit Encode
Reauthorist_NEWDoCCE.txt -> similar to cce_data.txt but in a newer format
Reauthorist.scp -> script file for scenarist. sets up assets and scenario. made by Reauthorist
scenaid.scp -> script file for scenarist. sets up assets and scenario. made by scenaid
*dummy* -> i'll generalize, these are files generated by both programs as place holders to fill in gaps left when audios, subs and pgcs are removed. also for chapter stop dummys replacements by scenaid.

Scenarist
*.scn -> your scenarist scenario file. this updates as you make changes in scenarist. it is also generated as you import the .scp file
*.vif -> this is a index file scenarist generates as it scans your video files.
\0\video_ts -> the directory containing the reauthored vob files made by scenarist

ifoupdate
except for the chapter index files, just modifies files instead of creating new ones

Numenu
when used it compresses the menu files. the scenarist version is in beta. while its working, it makes files similar to the other files above.

there are more files (scenarist makes a bunch during compile), but those are the main ones imo worth mentioning

(00:11:37) VTS 05 contains angles and was autoswitched to VobID Demux (Manual use of Scenarist required)
this is your problem

instead of ReAuthorist try using Scenaid as it can handle VobID demuxed projects.

I can't see any mpv files in the working directory and so i don't think that CCE encoded something...
Anyway i open the working directory in ScenAid and generated a script for Scenarist, then i import it into Scenarist but it gives me this error:

Info Creating DVD Video files
Error Subpicture stream 4 in "Video Track "VTS05V002"" does not have data. Please check the track in Track Editor.
Error Validate From DB failed.
Error DVD Video files could not be created

I go in the track editor but what should i do?

Hmmm, now i ran into problem agian, everything worked great until the burn process, when i try to burn it wont fit on a dvd, the sise of the dvd backup is 4495,9 MB....
How much is the top limit for burning on a dvd, and why did this happen, shouldnt the programs reduce the size so it fits on a dvd? And what should i do now, to make it fit a dvdr.
Sincerely Ziwler

You can try a vob editor(like VobSplitter) to cut off the fcredits at the end of the movie(end of the last vob) to fit in a DVD.regards

@ boombastic

in 'track editor' select "VTS05V002" and check:

1. how many substreams have been created for this track
2. whether there is any subs present in Stream 04 - and if it is even present.
3. post here a copy of the ifo for VTS_05 so we know what we are dealing with.

thanks

In track editor-VTS05002 i can see VTS05_v2_c1 and VTS05_v2_c2.There are two subpictures for both of them.I can't attach any file,if i open the ifo file it shows me a lot of unknown characters.
Anyway there aren't any mpv file so i think that cce didn't encode anything.Maybe multiangle movie are too difficult for me!

okay.

well firstly: if you have no .mpv file it may be that the file was small enough to not need encoding. therefore it will have been named VTS_05_***_no_cce.m2v, and as such will have a place holder set for it in the data editor of scenarist.

the other thing that may have happened is that you are right in your assumption that no encoding was done. if the contents of your folder for VTS_05 contain a lot of .m2v files and no .vaf or .mpv files then something has gone wrong in the process.
try re-opening the CCEdata.txt file in DoCCE/BatchCCE and try again

secondly: when i asked you to post the subpicture info, what i was asking was to open the corresponding .ifo in Ifoedit (VTS_05) and using the 'copy to clipboard' function, post the relevant part of the ifo. eg:VTS overview:
