DVD Shrink causes the black and white Studio Disclaimer about "contents not being the views and opinions of the studio" yada yada... I find this disclaimer often. Most recently on "Something's Gotta Give". Shrink causes this VTS to loop indefinately and the movie will never start...

I know I can bypass this clip with 2Cools guide and IFOEdit... However, I hate to have to resort to an extra step because Shrink is defective... This does not happen with IC8 or CCE. It is clearly a Shrink issue.

I am currently using 3.1.6 but this was a problem before... I also hear there are buggs in 3.1.7 so have not downloaded that version.

Anyone knowledgable about this probelm, your input is appreciated...

Did you remove any subtitle streams from that waring VTS? Sometimes the navigation is messed up if subs are removed from those.

Well I assume it had a French and English Stream though I did not pay attention to that VTS particularly. The disclaimer is French and English. It plays the appropriate one depending on the machine being used. I assumed that the disclaimer text was in fact subtitle text.

Why is this a problem? Again this doesn't happen on other Transcoders.

The disclaimer isnt necessarily made with subpictures but it may still contain hidden subs. Did you compress it at all? Try if 100% helps. Also not removing prohibited user operations might help.

Well like I said earlier... I have the work around... I was just hoping someone had heard from DVDShrink about a fix... I spoke to him about it about a month or more ago but it still seems to be an issue...

geffroman - i do vaguely remember reading of thta problem on some dvds. i thought it was fixed with 3.1.7 though. it would be good if you did download that version and test it.

@geffroman

Can you verify that the same problem did not happen before shrinking?. Strangely, I had a similar problem on the same DVD, but I found out it was because I had blanked out a menu VOBID and the IFO was breaking, waiting for a user action not coming from the blank clip.

I was reading on another forum (dominated by Shrink & ddloopy)that 3.1.7 was causing new problems... Anyone know if that is resolved ?

Actually this was a new call for an old problem... I was just hoping there was some new news... I can and have run Shrink ONLY and the problem occurs. The answer has been whenever this Title 2, First Play, VTS_1 disclaimer is included on this Studios movies that I use IFOEdit to bypass the VTS (move post commands to precommends) so that the resulting issue caused in Shrink never gets a chance to hang the DVD Player...

If you leave the french subtitles on all VTS Sets except the french subtitles in the main movie, if you really dont want French subtitles, it will solve this problem. Those disclaimers are a blank screen with forced subtitles which is the disclaimer. I have tested this many times and It works.

By the way this happens to IC8 as well

it would still have been nice to know if it happened with dvdshrink 3.1.7 though. :)

some of the problems with dvdshrink can be solved by disabling nero burning, disabling the video preview(the one where it is analysing the dvd to start with) and not enabling audio remapping.

This problem is notorious with Columbia-Tristar DVD's.. and I'll bet Something's Gotta Give is a C-T film.

DVD navigation is mucked when French subs are stripped--looping occurs just after French disclaimer/warning.. I'm sure there's a technical fix but I simply keep French subs, which prolly is easiest solution.. this looping occurs with all one-clicks that I've tried, not just DVDShrink.

I dont have any probs with shrink 3.1.7, done many movies with it since it was released.

By the way, whenever the copyright disclaimer is in its own VTS (and doesnt contain a language menu or other), I blank it with TitleSetBlanker (takes 5 seconds to do) to get rid of it alltogether. Same for some studio animations that I find annoying.

As for your problem, it makes no sense to me why you'd strip out french subtitles knowing it causes problems with dvdshrink.

Yes it definately is CT movies causing the problem but I've had it happen even keeping all the French subs. I've resulted to doing Movie only rips of all CT films.

But Shrink took it upon itself to play French Subs when it felt like it... Soo since there is NEVER a reason to view French... there is NEVER a reason to leave them...

Bottomline is that there are issues if they are left on... and there are issues if they are left OFF... So Shrink should learn to deal with them... properly...

Just wanted to add the same problem occurs with Nero recode as well. The only "one click" that I know of that doesn't have this issue is dvd2one for some reason.

I redid the same material with IC7 and did not have the problem...
