your subtitles are overlapped.
in scenarist, on the 'track editor' tab you can correct it manually.
the 20th and the 21th subs are overlapped.

click on the track editor tab
you can see an icon. That is your movie
Double click on it.
Now you see horizontal stripes:
the first one is your video
the second is the audio
the third is the subtitle stream.
on the sub stream (3rd) you can see your subpictures, showing where they appear and disappear, displayed as boxes. you can drag the left (appear) and the right (dissappear) sides of the boxes, that will result the change of timing.
Search the 20th and the 21th subpictures and organize them to be not overlapped.

Good Luck

I too have been having this same problem with backing up an old dvd of mine. I was wondering this same thing, after fixing the overlapping, how does one go about completing scenaristst process, and is there any way to fix this in dvd2svcd so it does it automatically?

edit: my layout error problem seems to be a bit different, this is my dvd2svcd log:

@EuGeNiLe

Click on the "Layout Editor" tab, and tick at step 3 the "Create DVD Video" box.If you want the discimage also, tick the "Create Disc Image" box.Then click "Start" ang the procedure will go on....

@Glacier505

On the "Layout Editor" tab, check the target directories paths...
Normally it should be as follows:
Target Directory C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\DVD-Mux\
DVD Root Directory C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\DVD-Image\
Mux Directory C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\DVD-Mux\

good luck

i tried that, but when i went to the layout editor tab, the target, dvd root, and mux directories boxes were blank, so i even tried to set them, and i hit start (after checking create disc image and dvd video), and it said it created successfully, but when i goto check the image, its only a few KB in size. Plus, remember, apparently it had an import error too for some reason. Any more ideas?

I struggled with Layout failures in Scenarist before as well. And the only thing that seemed to be going wrong in the end was the last chapter being only a couple of seconds black screen. Correct me if I am wrong but in my opinion the only thing you guys have to do is to delete the last chapter in Scenarist and let Scnearist try to do its job again. Tell me if you want details, I can provide them. But first try it! There is also a lot to be found on this subject in this forum.

Good luck all!

@EuGeNiLe

The warnings are not important. Scenarist checks everything very srictly (thats why you wont have playback problems with DVDs created by it). A warning means nothing to care about, the disc image will be created. It appears always for me too.

@Glacier505

Seems like your audio file is missing. Check it! Did you have any problems during the audio encoding?

When Scenarist fails you click Ok. Then go to the Track editor tab and delete the last chapter. Finally go to the Layout editor tab and click Start. Scenarist will do its job and hopefully you wont receive an error at the end.

Let me know if you get stuck somewhere. Good luck!

I just remembered you might have to try something else. I experienced the subtitle overlapping when I extracted all the files from the DVD in what is called the ISO mode. When extracting the movie to your harddrive, you better use IFO mode. Some DVDs dont have the scenes in chronological order. They are mixed up a bit so to speak. Extracting in IFO mode sets everything in chronological order.

Hope this helps you out. Cheers!
