Dolby question

This may be a stupid question, but my DVDs that have Dolby 5.1 show on my Sony set top player as 3/2.1 Is that the same? I have been watching DVDs about a year, but just finally got an A/V receiver and just want to be sure. THANKS!

Yes it is the same thing. 3 = Front left, center, front right / 2 = Rears .1= subwoofer
