Okay, I used Canopus ProCoder for the first time just to see how it worked. I chose NTSC DVD for the target and got my ouput files of
.m2v and .wav. Are these the usual types to burn a DVD with?

The m2v is required for dvd. dvd audio is wav, ac3 and in Europe mp2. Most ntsc players accept mp2 also, but is not standard. Wav files are hugh. I would convert the wav to ac3 to save disc space. Several guides in the audio section.

m2v is the picture part
wav is the audio part
Mux them together and you have an mpg file (video+audio)
