- I'm not sure where to go with this question/problem. So I thought that one of you could help.
- I have a DVD player that will play "DVD-A."
- I have a DVD burner on my computer.
- I have a lot of MP3 files that I tried to burn onto a DVD-R, but it would not play on my DVD player.
- Is it possible to burn MP3's onto a DVD-R, and have it play on my DVD player?
- If so, how?
- Do I need a special program for my computer to do the necessary conversion?
- Thanks for your help.

looks like your DVD player can't handle MP3 audio, so you'll have to go for another format that is supported. One method would be video less AC3 or MP2 audio (there's a program for that from the creators of DVD2one - but it's not freeware), alternatively, you could author a DVD audio disc (but here again you need at least a special commercial DVD audio authoring tool). I presume you can also create audio-only DVDs using the tools you got with your burner, but I've never tried this so I wouldn't know how this works (I moved the thread in a forum where people are more likely to know).

What make and model of DVD player is it?
Maybe we can find a format that your player likes.
Having said that, it might be that your DVD player does not like MP3 audio streams burned on to DVD's. Try burning some on to CD~R to see if that works!

- It is a Sony DVD player. I do not know the model #, as the player is at a friend's house.
- It does play DVD-R (I already tried it with a movie), CD-R, MP3 files on a CD-R. It did not recognize MP3's on a DVD-R (It stated "Disk Error")
- In the manual, it states that it should play DVD-A, as long as there are no more than 999 files (I did not have more than 999 MP3 files on my DVD-R)

- O.K. - So DVD-A has nothing to do with MP3's. Is it possible to burn MP3's onto a DVD-R (it is because I've done it), and have them be recognized/played by a DVD player?
- How come, when I try to play the MP3's that I've burned onto a DVD-R (in a DVD player which plays both the MP3's burned on a CD-R, and movies/video on a DVD-R), I get a message "wrong disc" (or something to that effect)?

i looked on dvdrhelp dvd player list. the closest i could find is the f85 which plays cd-r mp3 disks.. but not dvd-r mp3 disks..
and the reason it doesnt play dvd-r mp3 disks?. same reason most dvd players wont play a 700mb dvd burned to cd-r.. when the dvd player detects a dvd it loads software for 'x' functions..and loads different software for cd-r.. (loads may be the wrong term but makes the point) .. if they didnt think to or didnt want to add code to support mp3 for dvd-r its their choice.. even if the code is mostly there for it, its extra work to support it for both.
someone will make a free mp3/wav/ape or whatever to dvd-a creater.. just a matter of time

Hmmm ..... you can easily burn more than 500 MP3s on a normal CD3, even at avery high bitrate. You care telling us why you need MP3 on a DVD please ? Whats the sense in having 4000 songs on one disc ?
Using DVDs for audio, IMO, makes only sense if you go for a higher quality audio compression than MP3, like using uncompressed PCM or AC3. As Doom9 told you already, there should be a couple of DVD Video authoring programs that will allow you to make DVDs that will only contain audio ( yes, thats part of the DVD Video specs also ) ....

If the player can't handle MP3s on DVD-R, you're SOL. You'll have to convert the files to something else (with the loss of quality this incurrs). You could for instance create a video DVD with a movie track consisting of a blank screen, and the audio being your music (one chapter per track). But you don't have the search and playlist features your player might offer for MP3 on CD-R. If you want to have it all (MP3 playback features, and using a DVD-R as support media) I'm afraid you'll have to buy a new player. If I remember correctly, both my DivX capable players can handle pretty much any kind of content on a DVD-R, including MP3 and sometimes even Ogg Vorbis.
