In the settings for dvd decryptor, under the "device" tab, there is an "options" box - in that box there is an option to:
[ ] set read speed
By default, it is _not_ checked.
Two questions:
- what speed does it rip at if I leave it unchecked ? Is there any reason not to check it and set it to "MAX" - is that dangerous in some way ?
- if I leave "hardware read error retries" unchecked, what does dvd decryptor do if it encounters a hardware read error ? Does it just stop ripping and tell you ?
thanks!

If it is unchecked it should read at max
there is nothing wrong with leaving it in max or unchecked it wont damage your computer
dont worry all is good basically leave the defaults as they work pretty well and as for the hardware error retries leave that too it works fine for me and has done so for a long time it does not ask u questions if it encounters an error nor does it stop ripping

Hmmm...well, the thing is, I _want_ it to stop, or otherwise notify me if there is a hardware error - not just blindly continue as if everything is ok...
Can anyone confirm this - that if I leave "hardware error retries" completely unchecked, that it will just ignore all hardware errors and blindly continue ripping, thus giving me a bad copy and I don't even know it ?
thanks

Don't trust Jeremy's advice, eh? :)
He was correct, though. Leave it alone. If there is a problem, you'll be notified in the log window below the main DVD Decrypter window. The only time you're likely to run into problems is if the DVD is scratched or too dirty for DVD Decrypter to read it. It'll retry a whole bunch of times before giving up and skipping that part. But then the log will state that errors occurred. Only then are you likely to find some corruption in the vobs at those places.
