View Full Version : bin file too large (again)

i never sleep
10th April 2004, 23:46
I am having the same problem that others have reported with the last bin file of SVCD being too large too burn, far too large for overburn. In this case the movie is 147 minutes, and the third bin file is hosed...sizes are 805/805/843 MB. I am using TMPGenc 2.520.54.163 and set the rate control to AUTOMATIC VARIABLE BITRATE (CQ_VBR). I am including the DVD2SVCD log file for inspection and hopeful mystical advice.

As a side note, I later tried the same movie using 2-pass VBR, and the third file was 818MB. I have done everything but hit the computer with a rubber chicken. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Thanks!

Have you seen this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72526&highlight=too+large)? I believe the gist of the suggested fix lies in the CD sizes you've set as defaults under the Bitrate tab. Or rather, the case may be that you've left the default sizes in place, which if IRC, are 740.

Abond's last post to this thread is really the heart of it. All in all, it's an interesting discussion. Good luck!

I use 800MB CDs, so I have the CD sizes set to 800. I have read all of the threads pertaining to this issue, to no avail, which is why I posted a new message on the subject. It seems that the crux of the problem is the way that TMPGenc deals with variable vs. constant bit rates, and some inherent inaccuracies. I had done *everything* that earlier threads suggested, which means that I had done more than 10 iterations of the full rip process trying to get one good one. It seems that the suggestions in earlier threads work with 2-CD flicks (they fixed my problems after I got it down), but there's some new issue with 3-CD flicks.

Someone wants to borrow this movie from me, and I don't let any movie out of my sight until I know that I have a good "insurance" copy. They get upset, but I don't have to worry about where I can find another copy should it not come back.
