I'm trying to backup a copy of Last Samurai I've tried this with DVD Shrink, a direct copy software, and trying to copy the VIDEO_TS folder to my HDD, every time I get an error reading disc and the words Cyslic redundancy reading error.... every time this happens at the same place - at the end of the first VOB file.
The disc plays fine, is this some sort of security sys within the disc and is there a way round this.

Dirty or scratched disk.
This is a hardware fault, either give up, try to clean/repair the disk, or if you are very lucky you might be able to read the disk in another DVD ROM.

I have a NEC 1300 too and it can be picky on what it reads. I also have a Toshiba 16x drive I sometimes throw in if the NEC doesn't like a disc.

But my real point in responding to this thread was to use the correct spelling of the word: Cyclic so this thread will come up if anyone searches for this problem in the future. :)

And let me also add Cyclic Redundancy Check CRC error abort retry cancel

you know i used to have no problems with my 1100a with read errors. then i flashed it with the 1300 rom (adds -r writting to the drive). ive been getting that error now. my read speeds have gone up from the 2x's area to 6x so maybe that has something to do with it. i dont mind because as you guys do, i have a dvd rom backup drive that will get me out of a pinch. and i only get the error once out of every 10-20 disks
. so i just enjoy the speed boost and cross my fingers. :)

Thanks all, my 1100a performs ok most of the time I'll pick up a replacement copy of Samurai when I'm next in work just to see if it was the disc.
Good one on correcting the spelling.

Cheers
