Weird issue....can't transfer VOB via ftp?

Ok, here is what im trying to do. I used dvd decrypter to decrypt a dvd to one single VOB. In flash fxp it says its 4 gigs yet it is really 7 gigs. Anyways, I go to send it to the xbox and the damn thing stops half way. EVERY TIME. It gets to exactly 54% and fails and starts all over again. Ive transferred several movies but never had this happen so im really curious to know what is different with LOTR. Doubt seriously its the dvd and asume its my lack of knowledge with VOB files and fxp (although ive been using flash for about a year). Dont know, hope you guys can shed some light. Thanks.

Have you ever tried to transfer a file this large to your XBox before?

The FlashFXP site says that it doesn't have a 2GB/4GB size limit (that may only be the latest version). But if it doesn't have the limit, then why is it reporting the file size incorrectly?

Even then, the FTP daemon on the XBox may have a file size limit.

I might suggest you keep your VOB in 1 GB chunks as they are on the original DVD. That way you'd avoid any file size limitations.


You might also try the FTP client that comes with Windows. It's command line but it isn't hard to use - just open a command prompt window and type FTP, then help once the FTP prompt comes up. Don't forget to change to binary mode (type binary at the FTP prompt).

No ive transferred lots of stuff that is the same size or bigger. Project Gotham 2 was like 6 gigs and it went over fine. Ive also put other movies on and worked great. I used dvd decrypter like I said and in the flash window it says something like 4,032,673,532 bytes and when i go to properties on my desktop it says its 7 gigs. I dont get it but 4 is just a little more than half of 7 and it stops at 54% like I said so that is a clue as to what it is im sure. Its almost like flash cant see the rest of the file so it just starts over. No, thats a stupid conclusion, but I cant figure it out. Anyone else got an idea? Btw, I know about the character limits and that aint it. Thanks for the reply though.

The Xbox's FATX filesystem has a 4GB limit. ;)

Ha, so funny. Im a member there but forgot that. I transferred Gotham 2 though and that was like 6 gigs. Sup with that?

Was Gotham 2 a single 6 GB file, or several files that added up to 6 GB?

why not use smart ripper to rip the vobs and ifo and then use xbmc to load the ifo??

Well, ive done that, but if you have several vob's, xbmc pauses slightly. Its not that bad, but Id rather have a smooth playing movie. Its just a little distracting to have the pauses. Ive since split the vob into 2 vob's and so there is only one pause halfway through the movie so problem solved. If you havent checked out the last few builds of xbmc btw do it. Its about flawless now. Only a couple minor bugs with samba but I dont use it anyways so Im lovin it. Jaydee and Frodo have made something incredible.

hmm. i have The green mile in several vobs and an ifo on my pc and i stream it to the xbox using the latest xbmc and i never noticed any pauses. what i would like to find a way to do is to figure out how the " copy to smb share" works on dvd2xbox. i tried to do a few different dvds with that to dump them right onto my pc from the xbox, but it just hangs at 0% copy progress.
