Hi all,
I'm new at burning DVD's but not with computers, etc. and this problem's got me stumped. Excuse the long-windedness but I want all the details known for the DVD experts.
I've got a Sony DVD+-RW DRX-510UL (fw: 1.0f) for a few days now, and every single *.img file I burn (havent had any ISO's to try), burns successfully, but the verify ALWAYS fails at 94%, for every *.img file I've tried, with the error:
I/O Error
ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB: 28 00 00 16 AD 80 00 00 01 00
Interpretation: Read (10) Sector 1486208
Sense Area: FO 00 00 21 ......(more numbers)
Interpretation: No Seek Complete
This is with DVD Decryptor 3210, burn-proof on at max (4x), or even when I tried once at 2.4x.
The only thing that changes in the error from disc to disc is the actual sector # and the hex numbers on the CDB line and the Sense area line- but the verify failure always occurs at 94%.
Here's the scenario.
I bought a 25-pack of Fuji DVD+R 4x blanks, and proceded to burn my first image file. I got the above error on the verify- I thought "maybe the 1st disc was defective.. strange".
I immediately made another burn from the same image, which DID go successfully through the verify. Then on a 3rd burn verify failed again.
Now since there's no way to verify "after the fact" a disc which has already been burned (at least not that I know of-- this would be great), what I've done is try to Mode->ISO->"Read" the burned disc back to a new image file on the hard drive, to see if it can read all the way through.
That works, with both my Aopen 16xDVD-ROM/AMH, and the Sony itself, and they both create images of identical sizes. I cant compare to the original img file since I need to erase it for lack of disk space, and anyway, DVD Decryptor makes MDS/ISO files while the originals are *.img files, so comparison would be impossible.
Now this has been happening with all the img files I've tried, and I haven't had a successful verify since that 1st img file, and also a 2nd img file which worked 1 out of 3 times also.
I've done about 4 or 5 other img files all with THE verify error, but the "Read" "after the fact" on all burns is always successful, so I've assumed that there is another issue here.
One other interesting to note is this. Most of the time, when I use DVD Decryptor to do a ISO->"Read", and I load the DVD in, the program doesn't recognize the disc properly, even after it has just been burned (I have been removing the disc from the Sony and trying the read in the Aopen. thinking, "...I'll try to read it on a different drive and see if I get any read errors").
This disc spins up, and the program shows Disc ID and some other info correctly, but there's no label associated with it (and some other vital info is missing), and the progrgam doesn't think it's a readable disk.
What I do is close DVD Decryptor, open windows explorer, put the DVD back in the drive, and the OS recognizes it every time perfectly as it pop's up (label and all) in windows explorer, and autoplay with PowerDVD kicks in (they seem to play fine, altho I'll admit I havent watched any of them all the way thru yet).
Subsequent to that, I take out the disc, restart Decryptor, click E, then L to load the disk in ISO-"Read" mode, and wahla, the program now recogzies the disc perfectly, and the "Read" works fine to create the image.
Also, the Sony seems to have crappy read speeds, only about 2x, whilst my cheapo Aopen DVDROM reads them up to around 8x. Strange.
So, are the burns good?
Could there be an issue with the burner reading on the subsequent verify based loosely on the "noted" problem I just decribed above?
Could the burner be faulty?
Could all of the media I bought really be faulty or incompatible?
Maybe something in my OS (XP) is screwed (ASPI? although Decryptor's log shows SPTI in use..)
Am I just overlooking something simple?
Suggestions or advice would be most appreciated.
