View Full Version : DIF4U Not Correctly De-Interlacing Hybrid Content

Hi all, I have been trying to use the latest DIF4U and am trying to backup The Bourne Identity. I encoded the movie fine but then opened up some of the extra's avisynth files in VDub and realize that the interlace lines are still visible (in some case, not being de-interlaced at all). For one of the VTS's, for example, it says it activated Hybrid File (>50%). In the frames diagnosis it says "Header flag=interlaced, Anaylsis=95.21% Progressive". Yet when I open up the avs, there is no de-interlacing whatsoever, and if I encoded the VTS, the interlace lines are completely visible (the avs itself didn't have any de-interlacing invoked). Anyone ever have problems with this? Thanks

That there's no deinterlacing in the avs would be consistent with the outcome. The video is judged as being progressive (so what you're saying this is wrong).

Besides that interlaced video doesn't mean deinterlacing by default. It depends on personal preference. It's a hard trade-off I guess. If you deinterlace it hurts motion scenes, but you eed less bitrate. If you encode interlaced you need more bitrate and risk blocked video if bitrate is too low.

The interlacing lines won't show up on TV BTW only on your computer monitor. And if you use a software dvd players they won't show up either, because those use some seinterlacing filter most of the time.
