Hi everyone...dvddimwit here.

I have looked elsewhere in the forum and haven't found an answer to my question, therefore I'm hoping that this question hasn't been posted!

Does anyone know how to combine a two disc feature's "main movie only", together as one complete feature and then split it again to allow equal compression on both discs?

Example: I have a feature that is on two discs. The main movie of disc one is about 2:35 minutes in
length, and to back up this disc's "main movie" requires approximately 40% compression...on the other hand, the remaining movie on disc 2 is about 85 minutes and requires no compression during the back up procedure. Needless to say..."the quality between the two, differ!"

What I would like to know is...Is it possible to back up both sections of the main movie, combining them in some way, then resplitting it 50-50 so the compression, if any, would be the same on both discs?

I'm very new at trying to work with DVD's. It's almost just like trying to learn how to walk, that's how new I am at this. Many of you folks out there either are growing up in the computer world or has taken education courses, but in any case, computers are a part of your world. As for me, trying to learn these things at this stage in my life is like trying to "teach an old dog new tricks"...not saying it can't be done, but I'm quite slower at learning this, than most!

There are some things that I am trying to achieve with DVD's and I know that there is some way to do it, it's just some of the functions are quite technical. Therefore, I ask for understanding in relation to my questions and that any answers I may receive, be explained in "layman's" terms.

I take this time to thank all of you that has tried to help me and for any that may lend some advice.

:thanks:

If we're talking movie only (and I think you mentioned that), DVDShrink can get very close to what you want quiet easily.

re-author title from disk 1, use start/end to truncate movie
re-author again, use start/end to place remainder of movie from disk 1, then place movie from disk 2

You can even fine-tune the start/end to get a little overlap between the two disks - I sometimes like to do that.

Check out the guides at www.dvdshrink.info if you aren't familiar with re-author. And note that, even if you don't like to use DVDShrink for compression, you can still use it (with no compression) to split/combine the titles from the two original disks.

Kedirekin: :thanks:

Let me tell you my process...DVD Decrypt (all files) to HD.

DVD Shrink to reauthor...Nero6 - Rocode 2 to burn. I found it to be an excellent combo. But... You're information is excellent. I do have a question! Don't I have to do something with the IFO files first, before I try to connect the two together? Isn't that how the computer is instructed on how and what to do with the files? I keep seeing around on some forums where folks are talking about IFO authoring for some kind of results. Wouldn't I have to do this also?
Don't know...just asking. I do have IFO Edit, but I have no idea on how to use it.

Thank you again for your :goodpost:

Not if you're doing movie only. DVDShrink will create the necessary stub IFO files - which is relatively easy because there are no menus or complicated navigation commands.

If you're trying to keep the menus, then you are talking way beyond my level of knowledge. Based on what I know, trying to combine and split and keep some form of menus would be futile.

No...no menus, extras or anything other than the main movie. I'm a believer that all those extras are junk and just take up valuable space on the DVD, anyway!

Thank you, my friend!
