You won't find 8x dvd-r discs, especially not cheap ones. Use a drive that can write good 4x dvd-r discs at 8x (like nec 2500)

NEC has a media list on their official web site.

From memory, I can say:

8x is available for:
Taiyo Yuden 4x -R ('Maxell HGX Stamper Technology' for example)
Maxell 4x -R
Mitsubishi 4x -R ('Verbatim DataLifePlus' for example)
Taiyo Yuden 4x +R (I think...)

6x is available for
Ricoh 4x +R

you need the hacked beta6 firmware for this drive
then loads of media works at 8x. I like the Ritek
4x plus printable (RICOHJPNR01) media that always
writes reliably at 8x. Or if you wait for a few days
we have been promised that the beta7 firmware will
be able to write Ritek G04 minus 4x media at 8x.
