Request: New XviD guide, please

Hi there,

With the new XviD GUI that came with v1.0 RCx I don't understand nothing. Even the XviD Faq doesn't help me, cause I get only the worst encodes with it.

So it would be helpfull to get a new updated XviD guide, as they were simply perfekt to get pretty good encodes. And the actual guide is already 5 months old :(

So please write a new one if possible

umm, cough cough. New guide? But there is one. I have updated the XviD guide when RC3 came out, and I've just quickly checked out the RC4 and didn't spot any differences so I'm assuming that my guide is as cutting edge as it can be (plus Koepi was nice enough - as always - to make sure I didn't commit any major blunder). Here's the link: http://www.doom9.org/xvid.htm. Plus, there's actually a 2nd guide.. the AutoGK guide work just as well for XviD 1.0. I can obviously not update the main GKnot guide if the 1.0 tree is not supported (specifically the comp check doesn't work).

Doom9, may I add that all links on your site (like the one above) don't work under Opera 7.x? You simply get the startpage (with the news)... they work fine in IE6. I know that's not your fault, but it's sad to have the M$ one winning here ;) ... you may want to drop a line to the Opera devs if it's confirmed (anyone using Opera here?)

I don't know if it is appropriate to discuss about Opera here, but, yes I use Opera 7.21 and the link above just opens the start page and yes it works perfectly fine with Internet Explorer

hmhm, I've seen the virtual dub guide the first time.

I meant a guide like that one on the main page linked. A Gordian Knot guide, that explains how to get highquality encodes, like the old guides. Would be kewl to see such guides again.

I'd guess it's the JavaScript that tries to put such links back in a frameset that doesn't work right with Opera.

Try disabling JavaScript before following such links or use something like privoxy to block all files ending in "frameset.js" on the server.

Yup, JavaScript was the culprit. I disabled JavaScript and the links work fine now :)

you'll find the same opera issue all over this board. Opera constantly changes the javascript implementation, so the script sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I prefer to use a browser where it always works (no, not IE, I'm using Firefox as my primary browser and only switch to IE when I have to).

XviD and gordian knot will work again only when XviD reaches 1.0 final.

is it possible to see a new xvid gordianknot guide in the near future?Definitely. Though, I have to be the devil's advocate and tell you that you don't really need one. GKnot is the exact same as before. All that changes is codec configuration, and every XviD 1.0 RC3/4 parameter is already explained in the other guide I linked to in this very thread.
