For full PAL capture resolution you should expect about 35fps 1st pass and 20fps 2nd pass.

3 minutes of full ntsc, progressive scan. It do around 1-4 fps per second. And it takes 2 hours to encode.

Sorry for the bump, but is this normal. I feel it's very slow.

That is very slow for your system. I have a P4 1.6, and I normally get in the teens for FPS. So, it should take me around 10-15 minutes to encode something like that. That's consistent with my experiences. Try reinstalling the latest version of the codec, and use the default options. Also, what program are you encoding it in?

VirtualDub, I will try with less settings and see what happens. I haven't experimented more than 3-4 times.

It was one year since I encoded something. And then I did divx3sbc. =D

I noticed that if you try to write stats file in a non existing directory, first pass becomes really slow. Anyway I don't think that it explains your problem.
