View Full Version : Transcoding DTS

I've recently been trying to find a simple (simple for us non-CLI enamoured guys) way to transcode DTS to AC3, as I want to keep 5.1, but my DVD player doesn't handle DTS at all.
I saw that it should be possible to use the BeSweet wizard with Azidts to do this. I have installed all the needed filters and updated BeSweet to the latest version (1.5b26 for AC3) but every time I just get an immediate failure of the transcoding. No log is produced only I get an error window with:

FAILED(hr=0x80040154) in CreateFilter(CLSID_IVAudioDecoder,&pIVIAudio)

Not being any way inclined towards programming or coding at all, I'm at a complete loss what this means.

Can anybody help me and maybe explain what this means and maybe where the error lies?

I've searched the forum and found several problems which could be related, but nothing concrete, so a more direct answer would be much appreciated.

Have you installed WinDVD?(azidts requires dts filters of windvd installation). As far as I know the DTS decoder is only available in booster pack.:)

Yeah, as I said, I've installed all the required filters.
After reading some of the other topics related to DTS I'm inclined it may be something to do with azidts and the bitrate of myn DTS file, but I just don't know enough to be sure.

I got the same error when IViAudio.ax (the filter) was not propely installad...

Copy the file in sysyem32 dir & run regsv32 IViAudio.ax THEN install WinDVD 5 Platinum...

After that my Besweet produce something... even if it's only noise ^_^

You can do it in graphedit
Render dts file.
get this: dts source>cyberlink audio decoder>ac3 filter>Dshow render
remove ac3 filter and Dshow render
insert file writer and save as myfile.wav
insert cyberlink mp3/wav wrapper
connect: dts source>cyberlink audio decoder>cyberlink mp3/wav wrapper> file writer
press play.
I was going from 6 to 2 channle but I think you can set the filters different ways, not sure.

Hi folks,
same provblem here :(
FAILED(hr=0x80040154) in CreateFilter(CLSID_IVAudioDecoder,&pIVIAudio)

@ DSPGURU

is this a bug in the latest windvd version or doesit depend on videolan (the only app I changed besides those other two) or has something to do with the latest besweet beta (b26)?

THX

Daphy

PS:
found on rarewares dtsdec -> this app also wonīt work (but I canīt imagine any dependensies between those stuff)

I have also just installed Videolan, don't know if it's just a coincidence.
I also read in a related forum item something about DTSDEC doing something similar and the fix had to do with using a special version of BeSweet dll courtesy of DSPGuru. I think I'll try it with that first and let you know how it is.

I don't actually have WinDVD installed - just the necessary filters.

Anyway, I tried the amended BeSweet dll, but still the same. Then I guessed that there must be something wrong with the IVIAudio filter. I tried re-registering and lo and behold when I run BeSweet I get the properties page for the IVIAudio filter, but Azidts just maxes out my CPU and it locks up. It seems the problem must lie with my version of the WinDVD filters, so I'm gonna look and see if I can find another version, probably from version 5.1.5.26, as recommended by The X

OK, I tried a newer version of the IVIAudio filter, but it was still the same. So I downloaded the latest trial of WinDVD from the web, installled it and now everything works great.

Many thanks to all who replied in particular to The X, as without him telling me twice, I would probably have been too obstinate to try the full install of WinDVD ( I'm a PowerDVD fan - well I was!)

Cheers

Just to add my own experience here:

You need the following things to decode DTS with azidts:

1. azidts (obviously)

2. BeSweet.dll (I think latest is 1.5b23, this also means you cannot use bsn.dll 0.22 when transcoding to AAC, but 0.2 only).

3. Installed WinDVD Platinum >= 4.5

4. dtsac3src.ax from Gabest. Get it from guliverki (http://www.sf.net/projects/guliverkli) homepage.

Ok, I download BeSweet.dll 1.5b23; then azidts.exe then i put dtsac3source.ax in windows\system32 dir & run regsvr32 dtsac3source.ax; i install windvd platinum 5.1 5.26.... NOW ?

I've to use the GUI of Besweet.exe 1.5b26 to transcod or what ?

If YES; when i see the IVIAUdio panel what i've to select ? Enable SPDIF ? 5.1 channel ?

So far, so good.

You might use BeSweet GUI, but you can also do it the hard way:

DTS -> 6 x mono WAV

azidts -manualch -core( -input in.dts -output out.wav -6ch -logfile BeSweet.log )

In the upcoming iviaudio.ax dialogue select 6 channel (not SPDIF!). You should get six mono WAV files named outC.wav, outLF.wav and so on.

I only wanted to do a simple direct transcode from DTS 5.1 channnel to AC3 5.1, 'cos my player doesn't handle DTS.

I have tried it DTS>6 Single WAV>AC3, but I used Hypercube to convert DTS to 6 WAV's and then Soft Encode to convert to AC3 5.1. It worked OK but took longer and was a little more complex than using BeSweet wizard. Tested the results of both methods and found them to sound almost identical.

Personally, I always think it's easier to use the GUI versions as long as there is adequate access to the settings and in this case the BESweet wizard is great.

Hypercube gives a simple method to get the 6 mono wav files, just not sure if the channel assignment is correct. When I used my 6 mono wavs as the input to Soft Encode, I kept the channel assignment produced by Hypercube and the end result was the same as BeSweet wizard produced, so I guess channel assignment is OK - just that I read a few other threads where people have said this is not the case.

Iīve uploaded a DTS and a AC3 file with the correct Channel mapping on 'needfulthings' (itīs down in the moment but we will correct this ASAP)
You can use this to check your mapping :D
