I have saved a complete set of arragnment of a liveset in a program and shall save it all as one mpeg file. The problem is that i cant choose mpeg codec with the program, can only use the included one.

Im thinking to render it to AVI with Huffyuv, a friend told me its good. After that I would like to open it up with CCE or TMPGEnc for my mpeg2 encoding.

The question here is: How big do you think this AVI file will be? 50-70min of video (i leave-out the Audio and multiplex it later with the finished mpeg file)

Why i want to do this is becouse the program cant deinterlace the video, i can only render as progressive or interlaced ... deinterlace every videofile befor the gig wasnt somethign i knew was possible without making the quality lower (if it ever is possible).

Well it depends - mostly on the resolution and framerate of the video.

IIRC (it's been a while), for 640x480 at 29.97 fps, Huffy runs roughly 3 minutes per GB (or ~330 MB per minute), so 70 minutes would use roughly 23 GB.

well NTSC resolution will be the output. so shiiit, it will be b.i.g

i belive i just render it as interlaced superhigh quality Mepg2 and then re-encode it with CCE to progressive or deinterlace it somehow.

A good compromise would be to use MJPEG. You can get very high quality at about one-half the size of Huffy. That approaches the file size of high-bitrate MPG, but MJPEG is better suited to editing (since every frame is a key frame).

If you plan to do multiple generations of processing/editing before final encoding though, I highly recommend Huffy. It's lossless, so there is no degradation of quality between generations.

just wondering what program, premiere? vegas?...if your editing with premiere then you can just frameserve to CCE, it's faster, the premiere CCE plug-in is shiit IMO...

if your target is television then i wouldn't deinterlace - it would cause "ghosting" in most cases. plus you wont see the "combing" effect in tv screens anyways

Well I use Vegas for the edeting and its 10 files that are cutt and trasitionised.

THe source will be DVD and not television. I cant choose other mpeg2 codecs exept mainconcept with Vegas, thats why i was thinking of AVI.

Bu as i realise now the avi file will be huge ...

Is there some way for me to deinterlace the mpeg2 file after rendering with Vegas, but without re-encoding the file?

I have only done deinterlaceing with TMPGEnc when I made some SVCDs from a DVD file.

frameserve with PluginPac FrameServer (http://www.debugmode.com/pluginpac/frameserver.php) and go straight into CCE - it's faster and your NOT recompressing new avi files which degrades even further. deinterlacing files makes video worse IMO...if your target was avi to be viewed on computers only then deinterlace, but if your target is DVD/TV then deinterlacing might not be the best option

btw i too use vegas and frameserving into CCE works like a champ - you might want to consider it
