View Full Version : Extras playing wrong

Hi,
I've encoded a DVD9 to DVD5 using DIF4U/ReAuthorist/Scenarist and now I have the following problem:
When I start playing my result I first get the copyright notice, which is followed by 5secs of the trailer from the extras before giving me the menu.
When I go to extras and choose trailer it starts playing from 5secs (where it ended when beginning to play the DVD), and after the trailer it begins to play the making of in stead of going back to the extras menu.
So my guess: the time indications went wrong somewhere.
That's the only problem with it, the rest of it (movie/scene selection/menu) works fine.
Is anyone of you familiar with this problem or is it possible to set the times (where to begin and where to stop playing) manually?
Thx,
Craz

sounds like you messed up the ifoupdate at the very end...you should check the sticky above from eyes only for proper instructions

I tried that method, but still with the same result.
copied al *.vobs from scenarist to the untouched video_ts folder, didn't have a "do you want to overwrite" prompt.
I'm out of ideas here...

back when i first started, i used to have problems like that.. navigation didnt goto the right place.. and id redo partial steps and still wouldnt work. then id give up on the disk and go to a few others.. when i went back to that disk and tried later on.. like magic it would work fine with the same versions of the software. i guess what im saying is best thing is to start from scratch.. and even better do another disk in between.
trahald is right. sometimes the best course of action is to try another disc and come back to the problem dvd another day.
however, i would hazzard to guess, that although you may have not received any errors when copying the .vob files over, you may have updated a .ifo that was not re-encoded.
for example, you might have 5 vtses, only vts 1~4 get re-encoded, yet you accidently update vts_05 as well, and viola...incorect navigation structure.
then again, i could be wrong...
this is why i recommend in the guide i wrote (here (http://www.doitfast4u.com/./SPIDEY_GUIDE/A%20Beginners%20Guide%20to%20Button%20Over%20Video.htm)) that you should copy your VIDEO_TS folder from the DIF4U demuxed directory into your final folder, so that if you do make any errors in the ifoupdate process (or if you engage in some post ifoedit madness) and mess things up, all you have to do is copy the contents of the VIDEO_TS over again, and you will be back at the same place prior to the ifoupdate stage.
anyways, good luck with the project and if you still run into dramas, post back and we will guide you through the process step-by-step so you can master these fantastic apps.
take care

I followed your tutorial about ifoupdate and now i got a new problem:
When i play my result (powerdvd) it stops playback at the point where the trailer would start before.
So i get the copyright notice, and then it stops playing (where it should show the menu).
Any ideas?

Does it continue when you press play or fast forward? If so it's probably a restricted cell problem. Check out the dif4u website and search for pause in the knowledgebase.

when it stops playback (i get the powerdvd intro screen again) and press play there it restarts with the copyright notice and then stops playback again.

ok, so your navigational structure is messed up. Probably starting over as suggested is the best way :(

I've done the rip twice with the exact same result, what would make me think the third try would be different? :(
I think just as you i go wrong somewhere in the ifoupdate process but i can't see where...

ive had some early projects take 4 tries (albeit multiple issues).. anyways... at a minimum.. rerip the menu files from your dvd (the files doitfast4u ripped in the video_ts dir).. try to get scenaid and make a new script (go into the settings and turn check [do not process subs] debug setting) .. import the script.. import your subtitles (i import 1 at a time for scenarist 2.x) for your main movie. compile. then follow the ifoupdate step with your newly ripped and compiled files. if this doesnt work.. either start over from scratch.. or buy another copy of the dvd for backup ;)
the reason i suggest at least recompiling your script (with scenaid) and reriping hte source menus is because if you mess up the ifoupdate step bad enough, redoing it again with the same messed up files will yeild no / worse results.

ifoupdate is the smallest but probably most important step. glad to here you got it sorted. :D

I'm glad it works now. i would have hated to see Trahald have a go at this title, hoping it is something really complicated, and end up disappointed in the end :D
