Hi guys, Im just wondering what most ppl use to encode to Xvid. I use Gknot (w/ORC4) and custom settings, enter the audio filesize so it calculates correctly, but i final mux w/nandub. I almost always get a file that is exactly 700mb! Just wondering what you guys use to encode, the Vdub method or Gknot (technically Vdub).

P.S I use Gkot becuz it does the 2pass for me, and i really want to make sure that the output is true 2pass VBR. ( =

well i do it this way:
- use gknot for cropping, trimming and creating basic .avs file
- edit the .avs file for custom movie settings
- use vdubmod to encode
- and if i use mp3-audio, do it with besweet on the command prompt
- finally mux with avimux-gui

AVS2AVI.

Haven't used GKNot in a fair while but does it not still use VDub for encoding?

i also use gknot to prepare the basic .avs script
btw gknot also uses vdm inside

I use MPEGmediator 1.5.

It's just an encoder front end but it does allow you to create cropped and resized encodes very easily, as everything appears in a helpful viewing window.

2pass encodes have to be mounted manually. And of course DVD's have to be ripped before hand, using a separate application, such as DVDdecrypter.

I guess it's quite an old application, by todays standards. But I think it stands up really well, even when compared to script based encoding methods.

It's also possible to input mixed Mpeg streams (vobs, Mpeg1 and Mpeg2) but sadly not 'transport streams'.

Anyway that's me done... Cheers

I'm using AVS2AVI to encode & virtualDubMod for muxing

not a very good poll sorry to say

as its not got autogk nor does it take into account that gk and autogk both use Virtualdubmod anyway so people might click that

it also needs to include dvx among others

AVS2AVI or mencoder to encode, MKVtoolnix or 3ivx to mux.

Gordian Knot for XviD, foobar for HE-AAC, Mkvtoolnix for muxing.

I know that Gkot uses vdubmod and vdub internally, i was just wondering if you guys do it manually or the automated method. If you use part of Gknot or something then just reply, i dont need to see the the poll. It was just to see what people used as a visual aid.

I use GKnot to generate the base AVS, as it has a nice bitrate calculator. I edit the AVS to include denoisers and/or sharpeners as necessary. This AVS is then encoded in vdub-mod 1.5.10, which I also use to create the Matroska or OGM.

On the other note, BeSweet is used to transcode the audio into (almost always) 2ch OGG at 128kbit. High bitrate encodes I mux in the 5.1 AC3.

i do something along the lines of blue_misfits method.. saves figuring out AR and calculating bitrate.. but still lets me control the process.. so gknot..sorta :)

is there a better program than AR Calculator (avs2avi instead of VMOd)? I take for granted that you are using 1RC4
