View Full Version : VobBlanker to make main movie w/menu

The other day I was playing around with VobBlanker and was able to replace the main movie with another main movie and have all the menus working after. The replaced titleset had less cells then the original and warning came up that said the original cells are higher but everything worked fine in the end. But when the original is lower another warning comes up saying original is lower continuing with same cells then VobBlanker crashes.(can be worked around by using addchapter)
So now I’m thinking if I take a simple DVD structure with one titleset and menu (VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_1.VOB…) and blank it out to make a skeleton structure. Then I can replace a main movie that I re-encoded or transcoded and edit the menu with menuedit,I should have a main movie with a working menu. I still have to see if the audio and subs are correct.
PS. You can always put the “shrunk movie” back into the original structure and blank out the extras.

I'll look into it (the crash).
About replacing, see VobBlanker thread. I posted how I use it with D2S.. The "trick" is to use the Celltimes (celltimes, not chapters) from the original PGC and author with IFOEdit.

chances are that the crashes are my fault. i like to push everything to the max.
what i did was take a dvd with 37 cells and replaced it with one that has 106 cells. "Warning input VOB: Number of Cells higher than original. Continuing with same cell number" this warning must have came up a lest 50 times while processing. everything worked ok the chapter menu jumped to the right chapter, but it just merged the remaining 69 cells as one (everything after 37) what would be nice is if it could correct the cell numbers to the one you replace with (higher or lower). none the less it is still a good program. thanks.

what would be nice is if it could correct the cell numbers to the one you replace with (higher or lower) This is not "my" idea of the replacing feature. I was thinking in use it for 1:1 backup, so the replacing title must match (in Cells) with the original. If not, even with the chapters corrected, some navigation will not work (scene selection). Anyway I'll keep it in mind.
BTW, I found some serious problems in the app when the replacing title has less cels than the replaced one, so , at least , I'm going to fix them.
If you agree, any other comments/bug reports, please post them in VobBlanker (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73145) thread.

So its possible to take a split dvd9 movie and join it together? But only the chapters from the second disc will not working? Any work around for that?

Seems feasible, but I never tried...
In any case use AddChapter to fit the number of chapters. VobBlanker still have some problems when the number of replacing cells does not match with the number of replaced cells.

Ok, I figured out how to added the second part of my dvd to the first. I had to split the second disk VOBs by cells, then add them each as custom VOBs(long process). The problem now is that it originally had 60 chapters. So even though the first disk had only 28 chapters, its still adding chapters starting at 61. It plays back fine but after chapter 28 it shows chapter 61. Where does Add Chapter read the chapter numbers from in the IFO when its loaded in? I looked but everything I find says 28. Is there a way to edit the chapter number itself in the PGC_1 (program chain)?

Hi DMagic1,
I've reproduced your problem, but only using a "wrong" IFO. Please check if your IFO (before apply AddChapter) still has in PTT_SRPTI table the PTT_29 until PTT_60.
AddChapter modifies each table of the IFO file, but does not check if they are, let's say, "coherent" between them.

YES!!
This was it. This tool could be bigger than you originally planned. With this you can take a movie you split months go and make a fully working DVD9 again, menu chapter selection and all. Just in time for DVD9 burners. :)

Hi, what do you mean add as custom vobs. I was trying to this procedure with LOTR - Two Towers EE but I had problems with joining clips, I removed the last chapter of first disk which was the 15 (or something) frames blank and after joining the chapters were all mixed up
I followed the sweetness guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76100). Any thoughts?

@onesoul
i don't have LOTR - Two Towers EE dvd, is it mutliangle?
because when i tried demuxing a mutliangle dvd i got 150 or more cells and the mutliangled cells were all scattered form VTS_01_03.VOB to VTS_01_60.VOB.

Hey! I'm not sure that this case is multi-angle because when I do reauthor in recode/dvdshrink appears 5 titles to import although the only difference between them is 4 audio commentaries and 1 movie audio. Maybe that is why I can't join these vobs correctly? The demuxed by cells gave 31 chapters for first disk movie but weirdly the second disk movie gave only 10 cells.

if you have recode import the first disc then the second. hightlight title press Ctrl and hightlight the second title and then press merge tiles. (this is faster then demuxing and then remuxing) and uncheck fit to target. see if this works.

Thanks sweetness for the tip, can I use the produced vob files as replacing with vobblanker? and do I need the addchapter step?
(lol, I'm such a noob)
