Where is the avi file?

Hi there, I need the answer of a stupid question: How is possible to make an avi file from a vob file using DVD2AVI? I'm talking about avi file, not d2v.
I've tried to "Save AVI" and not "Save Project" with DVD2AVI, but the only thing I got was an avi file but 0kb.
Can anybody tell me how to do that?

You should use 'save AVI' in order to get an AVI file from DVD2AVI.

If you just got a 0kb file then something went wrong. First what AVI settings do you use? Then, what audio settings do you use? And third, if you have FAT-32 formatted HD's make sure you don't exceed the 4GB limit of the files.

Thanks! I will check again, but the format in my disc is non FAT-32, just NTFS... but I have enough place.
I've just seen that is possible to use "VAPICon" in order to get a "kind of" avi file.
My final intention is to create a SVCD with TMPGEnc, with permanent subtitles, that why I need the avi file, because if I want to display the subtitles with DVobSub, I need the avi file (with d2v file, I can't get subtitles).
As I said, I will make more tests.

OK, in that case you don't need the AVI! DVobSub should work with vfApi AVI's and if they don't then use AviSynth instead - and if you want to make it really easy then get DVD2SVCD instead. It will make permanent subs if you tell it to.

Yes! I don't want to use DVD2SVCD because it use a lot of diferents programs which I already have, and finaly is everything a mess... (nothing personal, just a caprice).
Anyway, I managed to create a "kind of" avi file from the d2v, with VAPI Converter, and it works perfectly with TMPGEnc and VobSub.
BUT: I can not still get the real avi file from DVD2AVI.
Something in the settings?

Something in the settings? Quite possible. Which ones do you use? And which version of DVD2AVI do you use?
You should use Huffyuv (lossless) or MJPEG (almost lossless) as codec. They use a lot of space (up to 20GB/hour movie) but if you are going to reconvert the video to MPEG later you want to use an intermediate AVI of the highest possible quality. Quite frankly one of the best solutions is to go on with vfApi. Fewer steps, no intermediate file that uses 30GB+ and you can set everything up in a matter of minutes. If you convert it to AVI first, then you have to set up DVD2AVI first, then wait a while and set up (or at least start) TMPEG afterwards. The waiting time with vfApi is only a few minutes (creating the D2V/AC3).

Basically it comes down to this: Unless you absolutely have to, you should not use DVD2AVI to create a real AVI. Despite it's name, it's not very good at doing so.
