View Full Version : Comp test file size and problems

Starting a 5% comp test (1h30m movie) using Divx 3.11 gets me a 2.5 GB file. Using XVid (RC3) the file isn't much smaller and I don't get any .stats file in the end. For now it seems I just can go with Divx (5.1 free).
Any ideas (I'm new to GKnot)?

Thank you :)

If I remember correctly, comp. check doesn't work for the new XVid RCX betas. The devs are waiting until the version is stable. And why would you want to use DivX 3.11? The newest DivX is much better. If you have both DivX versions installed, that could also give you problems (it's wise to only have one installed).

Anyway, make sure to check the encoders settings for the comp. check (fixed Quantizer 2 for DivX).

Thanks for the tip about XVid.
Regarding 3.11, I was just curious because I heard about GKnot years ago when it was the only one creating 2-pass VBR divx using SBC, but then I was a total newbie and it seemed too complicated for me.
Now I'd like to make a comparison. It seems also that v3.11 AVIs run smoother than v4, v5 or XVid ones on my Athlon 700 I use as movie player (with ffdshow as decoder). Maybe it's just a feeling, though.

3.11 could be smoother on your machine, since it does not contain any advanced DivX/XVid features such as B-frames, GMC, Q-pel which takes more decoding time (but give better quality).

But try another player (Windows Media Player 9 series is bad). Try Media Player Classic or BSPlayer (see download section) for playback.

If you wanna use the new XviD build's you could also make a manual-comp-check (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44414)... ;)

@piscator: I was used to play my movies with BSPlayer, now I'm trying out The Core Media Player which seems good. It's always hard to choose which player is the best, because with every release they all get always better.

@soulhunter: I'll give it a try. But maybe it's easier to wait for a new GKnot :)
