dvd authoring question

How can I make a palyable dvd if I only have the vob files? I assume I will have to make the ifo files?

IFOEdit has a create ifos button - you could try that.

However I'd be inclined to extract the audio and video using vobedit and author from scratch. This would be rather tricky if this is a multiPGC title or you want menus though. Also, subtitles would be an annoyance, might have to use a dummy ifo to use subrip/vsrip, either that or vobedit plus a .sup to something else converter.

edit: come to think of it, you might want to give dvdlab a try, barely used it myself but it does support importing of vobs.
