As really like xvid I want of course use it as well for offering progressiv download in the web, unfortunately footage at low bitrates like 200-300 bitrate and resolution of around 320x240 did look ver blocky and overall not so good as realmedia or quicktime.

As I don't have a good understanding of all the settings, matrixes and so on, perhaps somebody may give a helping hand. Or somebody has some recommendables presets he uses himself?

leonhard, come one, we're judging no-one here, this isn't a court! :) You haven't even received a strike for breaking a rule or something, just a gentle reminder about trying to inform yourself thoroughly before asking. Even strikes shouldn't be considered a punishment, they're just a warning and you're not out before you've collected three.

XviD certainly doesn't claim that it'll make any video look good at any bitrate. Maybe you could improve your codec configuration, maybe you could improve your other encoding set-ups, like avs-script etc, maybe all this won't help at all because the content you're trying to encode is just too demanding for the chosen resolution and bitrate? Hard to tell. It is hard to believe though that XviD should do worse than Quicktime, so probably you could do something about your settings. But again, there's some compulsory reading you were supposed to do before posting. This sticky at the top of the forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24924) says, among other things:

Please post all your options you using in your encode (i.e. 2pass, GMC, Q-Pel, Bitrate, VHQ, etc)

Realvideo was tailor-made for low bitrates BTW. It's got in-loop filtering and smoothens out blocks by default, so it is no wonder that it looks better at a bitrate that's perhaps been chosen too low.

Some stuff like 'bandwidth restrictions' simply doesn't exist, and this might be another reason you left the impression that you hadn't read many guides (http://www.doom9.org/xvid-guides.htm) or FAQs (http://www.vslcatena.nl/~ronald/docs/xvidfaq.html#A4) before posting.

Again, nice to have you here, and I hope the forum will help you and you'll contribute helpful findings to the forum, too.

well of course some question may evoke this or that inpression, and you may believe me that I spend days on koepis website, first trying to download with severals OS and browsers, because of some referrer problems. Then going around through all combination, I could even read the website with old netscape 4.78, where one has no real other alternativ to using older DIGITAL Workstation. And then got to hear I should read by somebody excluding professional programmers is hard to believe.

So this is not the first time i get into a forum and I know the other side as well, there are a lot of people asking me for help, I of course know that it is a tedious job repeating and repeating the things, you may as well believe I know the meaning of R.T.F.M (if you are unixish, you'll know). So in short, I consider the search functionality faster then waiting for an answer. And the thing is that I ask because I simply don't know better. The documentation is indeed big and I am simply not aware of 100 %.

As far as precise information is relevant, I gave what I really understand, left what I took to be understood , as 2 pass encding, but the other things like qpel i am simply not in to it, so I stuck to the defaults, whereever I feel not aware of what I am doing. So as we physisist say, learning goes quantwise. Also not giving theese details as well doesn't neccesariliy imply i didn't read it. And as every programmers knows, learning is not always linear but algorithmic.

To come back to bandwith limit if would understand what I did, I would ask, I used simple settings, matixes I don 't dare to touch for the moment. VBR, 2-pass, 720x575, 50fps, nothing else I touched. Simply I asked to fit to 4,2G.

there are forum rules which you had to read when you signed up for this forum. We need those rules to keep a certain standard.

Now you start "discussing" that you are so huge and professional. So these rules don't apply to you? Really. I gave you a link to Doom9's XviD-1.0 guide. Most of the options are explained there.
You can easily access the guide from the doom9 mainpage.

So this is still a very clear violation of our rules. We don't want and need repeating things, but your professionalism dictates us to do otherwise.

Certainly unwanted behaviour.
